Effingham St. Anthony edged Effingham in junior high softball competition Friday, 6-5.

 

The two teams were tied at 2-2 after the first inning. The Mustangs took a 3-2 lead n the fourth but St. Anthony tied in the tifth and moved ahead 5-3 in the top of the sixth. Effingham came back in the bottom of the frame to tie the score and the game went into 12 innings before the Bullpups tallied the winning run.

St. Anthony had 14 hits led by Sydney Kibler with three triples and two RBI, Hailey Niebrugge with two singles, a double and an RBI, Addison Nuxoll with a double and an RBI, Madeline Kibler with a double and Adysen Rios and Ava Faber with two singles each.

Effingham was led by R. Boone with a double, S. Althoff with a triple and an RBI, E. Niebrugge with a double and an RBI and M. Harvey and S. Donaldson with two singles and an RBI each.

At Paris

Jasper County improved to 16-1 on the season with a 15-2 victory over Paris Mayo Friday. The game ended in the fifth via the 10-run rule.

Jasper County was led in hitting by A. O'Dell with three singles, a double and three RBI while B. Frichtl had two singles and two RBI and M. Miller two singles.

Jasper County competed in the Fairfield Tournament Saturday. Jasper County won over Norris City/Omaha-Enfield, 14-3, blanked Jasper-Geff 14-0 and ended No. 1 seed in pool play. In the first game of single elimination, Jasper County pounded Woodlawn 19-3 and then claimed the championship over Fairfield, 7-3.

Jasper County is now 20-1.

At Neoga

Altamont had 11 hits in a 17-4 win over Neoga in five innings Friday.

Altamont led 9-4 after three innings then ended the game with eight runs in the fifth.

Nelson had three singles, a home run and drove in six RBI for the winners. Reardon had two singles and two RBI while Lemke had a triple and Garrard a double and two RBI.

Neoga was led by H. Campbell with a home run and two RBI.

"I'm very proud of the girls and hoping our momentum follows us into post season play," said Altamont Coach Lindsay VanBlaricum.

Altamont finished the National Trail Conference with a 5-1 record.

Clay City/North Clay downed Hutsonville/Palestine, 9-5 in Friday action.

Morgan Hance threw a no-hitter, striking out 21 batters and walking seven in seven innings.

Hance also led offensively with two singles, a double, triple and two RBI. The Cubs are now 6-4 on the season.

At Shelbyville

Shelbyville picked up a 13-3 win in five innings over Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City Friday.

Kinzee Musser and Jasmine Wildman combined to throw a no-hitter. Musser picked up the pitching win.

Shelbyville had six hits and was aided by five CHBC errors.

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg edged Casey-Westfield, 2-1 Saturday.

WSS took a 1-0 lead and held it until the fourth when Casey-Westfield tied the score. WSS then scored the winning run in the fifth.

WSS had eight hits led by Alaira Friese with three singles. Addie Wernsing was the winning pitcher on a five-hitter with one walk and six strikeouts.
