ALTAMONT -- Grace Nelson stepped to the plate and knocked out a three-run homer for Altamont in a 5-3 victory over Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg in junior high softball action Thursday.

 

"It was a big win for us over WSS," said Altamont Coach Lindsay VanBlaricum. "We've had several close games that we just couldn't pull off in the end and I'm very proud of the girls for pulling it off tonight."

Windsor/Stew-Stras took a 1-0 first inning lead and tacked on another run in the second. The squad held that until the bottom of the sixth when Altamont tied with two runs. WSS moved ahead 3-2 in the top of the seventh then came the dramatic finish for Altamont in the bottom of the inning.

Nelson finished with a single, home run and three RBI while Libby Reardon had two singles and an RBI and Skylie Klein two singles.

WSS had six hits led by Ella Kinkelaar and Addie Wernsing with two singles each. Wernsing knocked in two runs.

Not only was Nelson the hitting star but also took the victory on the mound, going all seven innings, allowing three runs on six hits, two walks and striking out two.

At Kinmundy

South Central leaped out to an 8-0 opening inning lead and went on to down Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City, 17-2 in four innings Thursday.

The Cougars had 10 hits led by Webster with a double, triple and two RBI, Cowger with two singles and two RBI and H. Shuler with a single and three RBI.

Watwood was the winning pitcher, allowing two hits.

CHBC was led by Macee Rodman and Jaylyn Allen with a single each. Katlyn Arnett added an RBI.

At Kinmundy

At Hutsonville

Jasper County pounded home 16 runs in a 16-3 victory over Hutsonville/Palestine Thursday.

Marli Michl picked up the pitching win. Jasper County improved to 14-1 on the season.
