Mattoon edged Effingham 2-1 in junior high softball action Tuesday.

The Mustangs took a 1-0 lead in the third inning but Mattoon came back in the fourth to knot the score. Mattoon then tallied the winning run in the sixth.

Effingham had three hits led by M. Harvey with a single and double and M. Kirk with a triple and an RBI.

At Strasburg

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg blanked Effingham St. Anthony 5-0 in action Tuesday.

WSS took a 1-0 opening inning lead then tallied a single run in the second and third innings and two in the sixth.

The winners had six hits led by Kinley Quast with two triples and an RBI and Addie Wernsing with two singles.

The Bullpups had two singles by Sydney Kibler.

Wernsing threw the two-hitter with six walks and five strikeouts. St. Anthony committed six errors.

At Strasburg

At Teutopolis

Teutopolis edged Altamont 3-2 in action Tuesday.

The two teams were tied at 1-1 in the opening inning. Altamont moved ahead 2-1 in the third. But the Shoes came back to knot the score at 2-2 in the sixth then scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh.

T-town had only three hits, all by E. Althoff with two singles and a double. J. Goeckner had two RBI.

Altamont was led by L. Reardon with a double and an RBI and P. Garrard with a double.

The two squads played three innings of B competition and ended in a 5-5 tie.

Jasper County stepped out to a 13-1 opening inning lead and downed Martinsville 16-1 in three innings Tuesday.

Jasper County had seven hits led by K. Martin with two singles and two RBI and A. Stanley with two singles and three RBI.

Martinsville finished with 11 errors in the contest.

Ramsey edged visiting Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City, 9-8 Tuesday.

CHBC held an 8-3 lead after three innings but Ramsey started a comeback with a run in the fourth then two in the fifth to pull within 7-6. Both teams scored a run in the sixth. Ramsey then won the game with two in the bottom of the seventh.

CHBC had three hits led by Ruby Stuckemeyer with two singles and an RBI. CHBC drops to 1-10 on the season.

Clay City/North Clay downed Odin 16-4 in five innings Tuesday.

Carolyn Hurd picked up the win on the mound, striking out seven.

Morgan Hance had a single, triple and an RBI for the winners while Sammie Craig had two singles and an RBI and Mallory Boose two singles and two RBI. Leah Cartright added a double and two RBI.

The Cubs are now 5-4 on the season.
