Effingham St. Anthony picked up two victories and suffered a loss in junior high girls softball action during the weekend.

In Friday play, Mattoon claimed a 5-1 win over the Bullpups. Mattoon broke a 1-1 second inning tie with two runs in the third and fourth innings.

St. Anthony outhit Mattoon 8-7. A. Nuxoll had a single and double.

In the second contest, St. Anthony defeated Shelbyville, 4-1. The Bullpups held a 2-0 first inning lead and never looked back.

St. Anthony had eight hits led by Rios and Walton with two singles each and Niebrugge with a double.

In action Saturday, St. Anthony pounded Mulberry Grove 19-9 and Paris Crestwood, 11-1.

In the Mulberry Grove contest, St. Anthony had eight hits led by Rios with a single, triple and four RBI, S. Kibler with a single, triple and three RBI and M. Scheidemantel with a double and an RBI.

Against Paris Crestwood, the Bullpups were 11-1 winners in five innings. St. Anthony had a seven-run fourth.

A. Nuxoll threw a no-hitter with five walks and four strikeouts.

M. Kibler had a single, double and two RBI and S. Kibler a double and two RBI.

Effingham handed Cumberland a 4-1 loss in Saturday play.

The Mustangs took a 1-0 lead in the third and led 2-1 in the fourth.

Effingham had five hits led by E. Niebrugge with a triple and an RBI and M. Kirk with two singles.

Cumberland had six hits, all singles by six different players.

Dieterich split victories during weekend action.

The Roadrunners claimed a 15-3 win over Brownstown/St. Elmo Friday.

Dieterich took a 4-3 first inning lead then had a six-run second and a four-run third and finished out with one in the fifth.

Dieterich banged out 18 hits including five extra-base hits. E. Meinhart had two singles, a double and three RBI while E. Meinhart added two singles, a double and an RBI. R. Westendorf had two singles, a triple and two RBI while S. Goebel added a single, double and three RBI, F. Verdeyen a double and three RBI and E. Kreke with two singles and an RBI.

BSE was led by J. Ireland, A. Stine, L. Seabaugh and O. Whitehead with a single each. Stine had two RBI.

In Saturday's game, Altamont downed Dieterich 16-1 in three innings. Altamont led 8-0 after the first and 14-0 after the second.

The Wildcats had seven hits led by G. Nelson and G. Lemke with a triple each. Lemke had two RBI and Nelson one.

C. Westendorf had the lone hit for Dieterich with a single and an RBI.

G. Nelson went all three innings allowing one hit, one walk and striking out seven.

Altamont stepped out to a 5-2 opening inning lead over Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City in Friday play and went on for a 15-4 victory in five innings.

Altamont's Peyton Osteen got the win in the circle with nine strikeouts and only one hit. Leading offensively were Claire Boehm with three singles and Sophia Pearcy with three singles and an RBI. Grace Nelson had a single, triple and an RBI while P. Osteen had a single, double and an RBI, Peyton Garrard and Skylie Klein had two singles and an RBI each.

The lone hit for CHBC was a single by Mariss aSummers.

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg blanked South Central in Friday competition, 7-0.

WSS stepped out to a 3-0 opening inning lead and had a three-run third and a one-run fourth.

Kinley Quast led the winners with a double, home run and two RBI while Stacie Vonderheide added a single and a triple.

Webster had the two hits for South Central, both singles.

In Saturday action, Newton claimed a 10-4 win over Windsor/Stew-Stras.

WSS held a 2-1 opening inning lead and led 3-0 until the fourth. Newton then tallied a run and broke the game open with a six-run fifth.

K. Martin had a home run and four RBI for the winners while Frichtl had two doubles and three RBI and O'Dell, a single and double.

WSS was led by Samantha Hayes with a single, double and two RBI.

In the second game, Windsor/Stew-Stras came back for a 5-3 win over Newton.

WSS broke loose with 10 hits led by Gabby Vonderheide with three singles and an RBI and Alaira Friese with two singles and an RBI.

Newton led 1-0 until the third when WSS tied the score. Newton moved ahead 3-1 in the fourth. But WSS came back with single runs in the sixth and seventh and then tallied two in the eighth for the victory.

Newton was led by O'Dell with three singles.

North Clay/Clay City handed Webber Township (Bluford) an 11-1 loss in Friday action.

Morgan Hance threw her second no-hitter of the season, striking out 15 batters and walking only one in five innings.

Mallory Boose had three hits and an RBI while Sammie Craig had three hits and two RBI. Hance and Leah Cartright had two hits each. Hance added an RBI.

North Clay/Clay City is now 4-1 on the season and 3-0 in WEAA Conference play.
