Effingham Junior High School picked up another victory in the softball season by downing Paris Crestwood, 10-3 Tuesday.

The Mustangs took a 2-0 lead in the second inning then added on three in the third and four in the fourth.

Effingham had eight hits led by E. Niebrugge with two doubles and two RBI and J. Bierman with two singles.

S. Althoff went three innings allowing no hits, no walks and striking out seven. B. Beals came on to go two innings allowing no hits. J. Bierman finished out the last two innings allowing three hits, one walk and striking out one.

At Paris

At Vandalia

Altamont opened its season with a 12-2 victory over Vandalia Tuesday.

Grace Nelson took the win on the mound with16 strikeouts and one walk.

"Offensively we hit the ball well," said Coach Lindsay VanBlaricum. "Peyton Osteen had three hits including a double and Grace Lemke had a hit as well. We had several people driving in runs including Grace Nelson, Kylie Osteen, Libby Reardon, Peyton Osteen, Peyton Garrard, Brianna Grunloh, Grace Lemke and Skylie Klein.

"I am very proud of the girls and I'm excited for the season."

Altamont is back in action Thursday hosting Okaw Valley.

 

At Lawrenceville

Jasper County blanked Lawrenceville Parkview, 11-0 in five innings Tuesday.

Jasper County scored three in the third and fourth and finished out with five in the fifth.

B. Fritchl threw a one-hitter with two walks and three strikeouts.

A. Mulvey had a single, triple and two RBI while M. Barthelemy had a double and an RBI.

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg zipped out to a 5-0 opening lead and blanked Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond, 15-0 in five innings Tuesday.

Gabby Vonderheide hit a grand slam home run for the winners. Addie Wernsing had a single, double and an RBI while Samantha Hayes had a double and Ella Kinkelaar two singles and an RBI.

Stacie Vonderheide threw a three-hitter with three walks and seven strikeouts.

Teutopolis took a 2-0 first inning lead and scored in every inning for a 21-13 win over Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City Tuesday.

The Wooden Shoes had 20 hits led by E. Althoff with a single, double and two RBI. K. Wilkins and S. Beccue had two singles and three RBI each, C. Probst, J. Frey and K. Frese had a double and an RBI each. B. Wall added two singles.

CHBC was led by Addison Wasson with a single, double and an RBI and Katlyn Arnett with two singles.
