Local Softball Players Make DH&R All-Area Softball Teams

Local players earned Decatur Herald & Review All-Area Softball team honors including Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg's Megan Schlechte who was named Area Player of the Year while Craig Moffeff was named Coach of the Year.

Schlechte finished the season with a 20-2 pitching record for the Hatchets. Schlechte guided the Hatchets to a regional title, a sectional championship and into a super-sectional berth.

She threw 119.2 innings and finished with an 0.936 ERA. Schlechte also was an outstanding hitter with a .469 average. She had three home runs, 19 extra base hits and 47 RBI.

The graduate is heading to Lewis University where she will be playing volleyball.

Coach Moffett guided the Hatchets to the Class 1A state championshp last year and took them to the super-sectional this season. The Hatchets fell to Hardin Calhoun in the super-sectional and finished with a 34-2-1 record.

He was also last year's DH&R Coach of the Year.

Earning First Team honors was Schlechte who pitched and played third base and teammates Mackenzi Tabbert and Carson Cole.

Tabbert, a senior, was the catcher and hit .496 with 10 home runs, 10 doubles and six triples. She had 55 RBI and a .555 on-base percentage.

Cole, a senior, was the leadoff hitter for WSS and finished with a .479 average with a .573 on-base percentage. She scored 59 runs, hit 18 doubles, two triples and three home runs. She played the outfield.

Effingham St. Anthony's Allie Day, a senior, earned honors as a pitcher/first baseman. She hit .574 with 11 doubles, four triples, six home runs and 43 RBI. She went 110 innings as a pitcher with a 3.87 ERA.

Other First Team members were Tuscola's Natalie Bates, senior shortstop; Central A&M's Allie Dunn, senior pitcher; Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond's Reagan Miller, senior second baseman and Makenzie Brown, sophomore pitcher; Charleston's Macey McElravy, senior infielder, Ramsey Armstrong, junior outfielder and Reagan McGahey, sophomore infielder and Casey-Westfield's Claire Maulding, junior pticher.

Second Team honors went to Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg's Calla Roney who pitched and played third base. She missed almost a month of the season with an injury. She pitched 64.1 innings with 98 strikeouts and had a 1.31 ERA. She hit .430 wth seven doubles and six home runs.

WSS also had Ava Bennett on the Second Team. The junior second baseman hit .396 with nine doubles, three triples, two home runs and 28 RBI.

St. Anthony's Katie Kabbes, a senior infielder, earned Second Team honors. She hit .460 with 10 doubles, two triples and five home runs.

Cumberland's Madison Hendrix, a junior, played shortstop and pitched. She hit .432 with 12 doubles, two triples and three home runs. She finished with 18 RBI and scored 32 runs.

Newton's Kenzi Smith, a pitcher, finished with a 2.11 ERA. She hit .473 and had six home runs for the Eagles.

Other Second Team members were Casey-Westfield's Emma Mason, freshman shortstop; Tuscola's Kaitlyn Reifsteck, sophomore pitcher and Jessie Martin, sophomore third baseman; Oblong's Areka Burke, junior centerfielder; Charleston's Emily Price, junior pticher; Okaw Valley's Madison Vogel, senior catcher and Central A&M's Mikayla Denton, junior infielder.

Third Team honors went to WSS' Karlie Bean, freshman pitcher/shortstop, Newton's Josie Grunloh, junior second baseman and Cumberland's Liberty Dunaway, senior pitcher/outfielder.

Other Third Team members were Central A&M's Channing Reed, junior catcher; Casey-Westfield's Kennedy Repp, freshman outfield/catcher; Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond's Shelby Frederick, senior pitcher/infielder; Arcola's KayLee Hohlbauch, sophomore pitcher/infielder; Mattoon's Jordan Sapp, junior outfielder; Charleston's Dee Campbell, senior infielder and Grace McDowell, senior infielder; Oblong's Abbie Dart, senior outfielder and Tuscola's Kendyl Ring, sophomore outfielder.

Area players named Honorable Mention were Jessica Coffman (St. Anthony), Carsyn Fearday (Effingham), Sydney Gibson (St. Anthony), Morgan Krouse (Effingham), Kaitlyn Boerngen (Dieterich), Madison Cherry (Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City), Sydnee Garrett (South Central), Kelsi Geltz (Newton), Abby Goeckner (Altamont), Hannah Hayes (Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg), Payton Kinder (Newton), Allyson Maynard (Cumberland), Katelyn Maxey (St. Elmo/Brownstown), Josie Meinhart (Newton), Tinley Mette (Altamont), Sadie Oakley (Cumberland), Natalie Oberlink (St. Elmo/Brownstown), Kelsey Partlow (Neoga), Angelica Rivera (South Central), Jenny Robards (Dieterich), Alison Russell (Newton), Mackenzie Saunders (Neoga), Molly Sheehan (Neoga), Danae Sowers (Cumberland), Elizabeth Titus (Neoga), Caitlyn White (Altamont), Lauren Wojcik (Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City) and Kailey Wright (St. Elmo/Brownstown).
