Mahomet-Seymour Ends Hearts' Softball Season

MAHOMET -- Mahomet-Seymour High School ended Effingham's softball season in the Class 3A Mahomet-Serymour Regional Tuesday.

The Hearts took a 1-0 first inning lead but Mahomet-Seymour came back with two in the second and led 3-2 after three. EHS tied in the top of the fourth and moved ahead 6-3 in the top of the fifth. But Mahomet-Seymour got back on track with a four-run sixth for the victory.

The Hearts had only three hits and committed nine errors. EHS had singles from Emma Budde with two RBI, Emma Hardiek with an RBI and Taylor Armstrong.

Leading Mahomet-Seymour was Julia McNaught with a single, double and three RBI. Aubrie Shore went five innings on the mound, allowing three hits, seven walks and struck out seven. Karley Yergler came in for the victory, going two innings allowing no walks and striking out two.

EHS ends the season with an 18-13 record. These two teams met back on April 6 with a split of the doubleheader.

Mahomet-Seyrmour advances with a 16-7 mark to the regional championship Saturday to face Charleston, an 11-0 winner over Mattoon in the opener Tuesday. The title game is scheduled for 11 a.m.
