Windsor/Stew-Stras Ends Bulldogs Season 9-0

The Windsor/Stew-Stras Hatchets advanced to the championship of the Macon 1A Softball Sectional Tournament, defeating the St. Anthony Bulldogs 9-0 Tuesday. The game was heard on 979XFM and www.979xfm.com

The Hatchets will take on the winner of the Casey-Westfield/Meridian game for the sectional championship Friday. The start time for the championship game has been moved up to 3:30pm. The contest was suspended in the top of the fifth inning with Casey-Westfield leading 1-0. That game will be resumed Wednesday at 6pm.

The Hatchets scored in all but one inning. A leadoff walk to Carson Cole and an error led to a first inning run. An error that let leadoff hitter Karlie Bean reach base led to a second inning run. A two-out walk to McKenzi Tabbert led to a run scoring single by Calla Roney in the third. A leadoff double by Maddy Pfeiffer reaped benefit in the fourth when she was doubled in by Cole and then she was singled home by Megan Schlechte. Ava Bennett homered to left to lead off the fifth. After a scoreless sixth, Windsor/Stew-Stras scored three times in the seventh including a sacrifice fly by Bennett and a two-run double by Cole.

The Hatchets rang up 11 hits, including two doubles by Cole with 3 RBI; two singles and a RBI by Schlechte; two singles for McKenzi Tabbert; an RBI single by Calla Roney; Bennett homer and a sacrifice fly for 2 RBI; and doubles for Pfeiffer and Katrina Davis, along with a single by Bean.

The Bulldogs managed just five hits; two singles by Allie Day, and base hits by Katie Kabbes, Karlee Roepke and Grace Karolewicz. 

Megan Schlechte pitched the first two innings for Windsor/Stew-Stras, allowing three hits while striking out four. Calla Roney went the middle three innings, allowing a hit and a walk with four strikeouts. Karlie Bean pitched the final two outs, giving up just one hit and fanning four including striking out the side in the seventh.

Allie Day went the distance for the Bulldogs, allowing nine runs, seven earned, on 11 hits, walking four and striking out two.

St. Anthony wraps up 19-9-1 and says goodbye to seniors Allie Day, Liz Day, Shea Kinkelaar, Katie Kabbes and Sydney Gibson.

Defending 1A State Champion Windsor/Stew-Stras is now a gaudy 35-1-1.
