St. A, WSS, T-town Advance To Softball Sectionals

Effingham St. Anthony won its own Class 1A Regional by edging Altamont, 1-0.

Effingham St. Anthony High School edged Altamont 1-0 to win its own Class 1A Softball Regional Saturday in eight innings.

Allie Day was the winning pitcher for the Bulldogs, going the distance allowing six hits, one walk and striking out six.

Meanwhile, Bailey Teasley went the distance for Altamont, allowing eight hits, one run, six walks and striking out seven.

The two teams went scoreless through seven innings, sending the game into the extra inning where St. Anthony's Grace Karolewicz singled with one out. Shea Kinkelaar drew a walk. With two outs, Katie Kabbes walked to load the bases. Jessica Coffin then drew a walk to score Karolewicz for the winning run.

St. Anthony finished with eight hits. Karolewicz led the way with three singles. The rest of the five hits were spread across five players.

Altamont had six hits led by Abby Goeckner and Caitlyn White with two singles each. The Indians finish the season with an 11-17 record.

St. Anthony (17-8-1) advances to the Macon Meridian Sectional Tuesday where it will face long-time National Trail Conference opponent Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg at 4:30 p.m. at Meridian High School softball field.

The second game will feature Casey-Westfield against Macon Meridian at 6:30. Casey-Westfield beat Cumberland 3-0 to win the Cumberland Regional. Macon Meridian edged Moweaqua Central A&M 3-2 to win the Bethany Okaw Valley Regional.

Class 1A Pawnee Regional

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg took control early and never looked back in a 10-0 win in five innings over Morrison to claim the Class 1A Pawnee Regional championship.

The Hatchets tallied a run in the second, six in the third and three in the fourth.

Calla Roney threw a one-hitter with one walk and 11 strikeouts.

Karlee Bean led in hitting for the Hatchets with two doubles while Carson Cole and Hannah Hayes had a double each. Hayes drove in two runs.

The Hatchets improved to 34-1-1 on the season and advance to the Macon Meridian Sectional Tuesday to face Effingham St. Anthony at 4:30 p.m. The second contest features Casey-Westfield against Macon Meridian at 6:30. The winners will meet Friday for the sectional championship.

Class 1A Cumberland Regional

It was the two teams that have squared off a lot over the years during softball action at their respective schools in regional championship play.

Casey-Westfield blanked Cumberland, 3-0 for the crown.

Casey-Westfield now advances to the Macon Meridian Sectional where it faces Macon Meridian at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. Macon Meridian was a 3-2 winner over Moweaqua Central A&M at the Bethany Okaw Valley Regional

 

Class 1A South Central Regional

South Central saw its season come to an end in its own Class 1A Regional Friday.

The Cougars fell to Red Hill (Bridgeport), 6-5. Red Hill advances to the South Central Sectional and will face Marissa at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday. Marissa defeated New Athens 3-0 to win the New Athens Regional.

The opening contest will feature Centralia Christ Our Rock Lutheran against Oblong at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday. CORL downed Dupo 8-6 to win its own regional. Oblong defeated Woodlawn to win the Webber Township (Bluford) Regional.

 

Class 2A Teutopolis Regional

Teutopolis claimed a 3-0 win over Shelbyville to claim its own Class 2A Regional Friday.

The Wooden Shoes tallied a run in the second and held that until scoring two more in the fourth.

Allie Brumleve went the distance on the mound, allowing three hits, one walk and striking out four.

The Shoes had four hits led by M. Funneman with two singles and Emma Deters with two RBI.

T-town advances with a 13-10 record to face Mount Carmel Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. in the Newton Sectional. In the opening contest, Breese Mater Dei takes on Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond at 4:30.

Mount Carmel won the Flora Regional by outslugging Flora, 12-9. Breese Mater Dei claimed the Carlyle Regional with a 12-3 victory over Trenton Wesclin. ALAH captured the Newton Regional by downing host Newton 7-3.
