EHS Finishes Softball Game Against Mattoon With Win

Effingham High School edged Mattoon, 6-5 in a softball game that was suspended from May 11.

Mattoon led 5-4 after four innings then came the suspension. EHS then came back Thursday with a single run in the fifth to tie the score then proceeded to win it in exciting fashion in the bottom of the seventh.

Lauryn Douthit hit a walkoff home run to put the game in the win column. Douthit also had a single in the contest.

Skyler Schafer and Taylor Armstrong had two singles and an RBI each for the winners. Emma Huss had a single and drove in two runs.

Armstrong finished up on the mound, going a total of 5.1 innings, allowing no runs on six hits, one walk and two strikeouts.

The Hearts are 18-12 and will end regular season play today playing host to Springfield Sacred Heart Griffin at 4 p.m. EHS will then head into regional action Monday in the Mahomet-Seymour Regional. The Hearts will play host to Champaign Central in opening round play at 4:30 p.m.
