St. A, WSS, Newton, S. Central Advance In Softball Regionals

Effingham St. Anthony easily advanced in its own Class 1A Girls Softball Regional Tuesday by pounding Ramsey, 10-0.

The game ended in the fifth via the 10-run rule. The Bulldogs blasted out 13 hits. Allie Day and Katie Kabbes led the way with three singles and an RBI each. Jessica Coffin had a single, double and an RBI while Grace Karolewicz added a double and two RBI. Grace Hakman finished with two singles and an RBI.

Along with leading in hitting, A. Day got the win on the mound, going five innings, allowing two hits, two walks and striking out four.

The Bulldogs advance to the championship game and will face either Neoga or Altamont at 4:30 p.m. Friday. Those two teams play today at 4:30 p.m.

Class 1A Pawnee Regional

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg took a 7-0 opening inning lead and the game was over as the Hatchets won 12-0 in five innings over Edinburg Tuesday.

Megan Schlechte kept Edinburg off the bases, allowing only two hits, one walk and striking out eight.

Schlechte also had two doubles and drove in two runs. Ava Bennett had two singles, a triple and two RBI. Mackenzi Tabbert added a triple and an RBI. Maddy Pfeiffer had a single and three RBI.

The Hatchets improve to 33-1-1 on the season and head to the championship game Friday against Morrisonville, a 3-2 winner over Pawnee in the second game Tuesday. The championship is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.

Class 1A South Central Regional

South Central advanced to the championship game in its own regional Tuesday evening. The Cougars blanked Clay City/North Clay, 10-0 in five innings.

The Cougars stepped out to a 4-0 opening inning lead then had two runs in the third, fourth and fifth frames to end the game.

Sydnee Garrett was the winning pitcher, allowing three hits, one walk and striking out six.

Garrett had two singles while Macey Potter had a single, double and two RBI and Kayli Siwft three singles and two RBI.

The Cougars will meet either Red HIll (Bridgeport) or St. Elmo/Brownstown at 4:30 p.m. Friday for the championship. Those two teams play today at 4:30 p.m.

Class 1A Cumberland Regional

Casey-Westfield blanked Martinsville, 10-0 in the lone game Tuesday.

Tonight's contest features Cumberland against Dieterich at 4:30. The winner advances to Friday's championship game against Casey-Westfield at 4:30 p.m.

 

Class 2A Newton Regional

Newton handed Marshall a 10-0 loss in the Eagles 2A Regional Tuesday.

The Eagles took a 2-0 first inning lead then added on two in the fourth and finished the game in the fifth with six runs.

Josie Grunloh had a single and double while Payton Kinder had two singles. Amber Russell, Brooke Jansen and Maddi Hemrich had a double each. Jansen drove in three runs while Hemrich had one RBI.

Kenzi Smith was the winner on the mound, going all five innings, allowing two hits, no walks and striking out six.

In the second game, Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond edged Robinson 1-0.

Newton advances to the championship game Friday against Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond at 4:30 p.m.

Class 2A Newton Regional

Shelbyville was a winner in the contest Tuesday evening at the Teutopolis Regional.

The Rams edged Tuscola 3-2. Shelbyville advances to the championship game Friday against either Teutopolis or Pana. Those two teams play today at 4:30 p.m.
