Bulldogs Claim Final Game Of City Softball Series

Effingham St. Anthony outlasted Effingham in a run-scoring City Softball Series finale Friday at Bulldog Field, 11-10.

The Hearts took a 1-0 lead in the second inning as Jaidi Davis drew a walk. With two outs, Taylor Armstrong singled home Davis.

That lead went to 3-0 in the top of the third. Lauryn Douthit doubled and Carsyn Fearday followed with a home run.

The Bulldogs got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the third with two runs. Grace Hakman was hit by a pitch and eventually came around to score. Katie Kabbes singled and scored on a fly ball by Allie Day.

The Hearts then tallied four in the fourth on singles by Skyler Schafer and Fearday who tallied two RBI and doubles by Jacy Boatman and Emma Huss who had an RBI. EHS held a 7-2 lead and pushed that to 8-2 with a run in the fifth on an error, a double by Schafer and a single by Taylor Armstrong.

The Bulldogs started a comeback bid with four in the bottom of the fifth to pull within 8-6. In the frame, A. Day singled, there were wild pitches, passed balls and errors. Shea Kinkelaar singled home two runs.

The Hearts tallied two more in the sixth as Krouse drew a walk, Schafer doubled and Armstrong singled. EHS led 10-6.

That's when St. Anthony took over, scoring five runs in the bottom of the sixth to move ahead 11-10. Taylor Ritz doubled home two runs, Hakman had a single and an RBI and EHS committed three errors and had a wild pitch.

The Bulldogs were led by A. Day with two singles and an RBI. Kinkelaar and Ritz had a single and two RBI each.

EHS was led by Fearday with a single, home run and five RBI, Schafer with a single, double and an RBI, Armstrong with two singles and three RBI, Douthit, Boatman and Huss had a double each. Huss added an RBI.
