WSS Captures NTC Softball Tourney Title

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg High School claimed the championship of the National Trail Conference Softball Tournament Friday.

The Hatchets blanked South Central 10-0 in five innings. WSS took a 2-0 first inning lead and led 5-0 after three. The Hatchets then had a four-run fourth and ended the game in the fifth via the 10-run rule.

WSS had 11 hits, four of those for extra bases. Mackenzi Tabbert led the way with a single, home run and three RBI while Megan Schlechte had two singles, a double and four RBI. Hannah Hayes had a single and double and Carson Cole a double.

M. Schlechte was the winning pitcher on a three-hitter with one walk and four strikeouts.

Laney Webster led the Cougars with a double.

In the third place contest, Effingham St. Anthony claimed a 6-1 win over Neoga behind 10 hits.

The Bulldogs' Karlee Roepke led the way with a single, two doubles and three RBI. Seven other players had a single each. Katie Kabbes picked up the pitching win on a four-hitter with four walks.

Neoga was led by Makenzie Saunders with a double and an RBI.

The consolation championship went to Altamont over Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City, 15-0 in four innings behind the no-hit pitching of Bailey Teasley.

The Indians held a 1-0 lead in the second and pushed that to 4-0 in the third. Altamont then broke the game wide open with an 11-run fourth inning.

Ellie McManaway had a single, double and three RBI for the winners while Olivia Eckhardt added three singles and two RBI. Tinley Mette had a single, double and three RBI and Taylor Mette two singles and an RBI.

At Flora

Effingham and Flora banged out 10 hits apiece but the Hearts committed two errors and fell in a 9-6 contest Friday.

The Wolves stepped out to a 4-1 first inning lead and led 9-2 after four. EHS made a comeback bid with four in the sixth only to fall short.

EHS was led by in the hit department by Jacy Boatman with a single and double, Jaidi Davis with two singles, Emma Hardiek with two singles and Carsyn Fearday with a double and an RBI.

Teutopolis traveled to Edwardsville and fell to the homestanders, 4-0 Friday.

Edwardsville took a 2-0 first inning lead and led 3-0 after four innings. Edwardsville then tacked on a final run in the fifth.

T-town had five hits led by Lexie Niebrugge and M. Funneman with a double each. The Shoes drop to 8-9 on the season.

T-town will play host to Dieterich today and celebrate Senior Night at 4:30 p.m.

Newton claimed a 16-1 victory over Robinson five innings via the 10-run rule Friday.

The Eagles led 3-0 after the first then added on four in the second, two in the third and finished it with seven in the fourth.

Newton banged out 13 hits led by Kelsi Geltz with a single, triple, home run and three RBI, Jacey Parr with a triple, home run and three RBI, Kenzi Smith with a single and double, Brooke Jansen with a single, double and an RBI, Payton Kinder with a double and an RBI and Maddi Hemrich with a double.
