St. A, Nokomis Play To Tie, MTC Tourney Scores

Effingham St. Anthony and Nokomis played to a 9-9 tie in softball action with the game coming to an end because of lightening Tuesday.

The Bulldogs took a 1-0 lead in the third inning, then tacked on two in the fourth to lead 3-0. Nokomis tied in the top of the third but the Bulldogs pushed ahead with four in the bottom of the frame. St. Anthony held a 9-6 lead going into the seventh when Nokomis tied with three runs.

The two teams went into the eighth but lightening ended the contest.

The Bulldogs had nine hits led by Karlee Roepke with a home run and two RBI, Sydney Gibson with a single, double and an RBI, Grace Karolewicz with two singles and an RBI and Liz Day with a double and an RBI.

Midland Trail Conference Tournament

All four games were contested in the Midland Trail Conference Softball Tournament Tuesday.

Clay City/North Clay saw its stay in the tournament come to an end against top-seeded Woodlawn, 16-0.

CC/NC was led by Malorie Craig with a double and Hailey Miller and Destiny Lewis with a single each. The squad drops to 2-11 on the season.

In other games, Webber Township (Bluford) defeated Cisne 8-1, Waltonville won over Wayne City 9-0 and Grayville downed Centralia Christ Our Rock Lutheran 10-3.

The tournament is supposed to continue today, weather permitting, with Woodlawn against Webber Township at 3 p.m. followed by Waltonville facing Grayville at 5. The winners advance to the championship game Thursday at 5 p.m. while the losers square off for third place at 3.
