Bulldogs, Hearts Split Wins, Area Softball Roundup

Effingham St. Anthony split victories in its own round robin tournament Saturday in softball competition.

The Bulldogs opened with a 9-4 loss to Paris. The Tigers took a 1-0 first inning lead then had a six-run second and never looked back.

St. Anthony had eight hits led by Jessica Coffin with a single and double, Grace Karolewicz with a single, double and an RBI and Allie Day with a double.

In the second game, St. Anthony handed Okaw Valley a 13-2 loss. The Bulldogs had a six-run inning in the third and fourth and ended the game in the fifth via the 10-run rule.

Coffin picked up the pitching win on a three-hitter with two walks and four strikeouts.

A. Day had a home run and two RBI while Katie Kabbes had two singles, a home run and three RBI.

At Effingham

Effingham split Apollo Conference wins with Mahomet-Seyhour Saturday.

The Hearts won the opener 4-1. EHS took a 2-1 first inning lead and tacked on two more runs in the third.

The Hearts had four hits led by Carsyn Fearday with a home run and two RBI. Jacy Boatman added a single with an RBI.

Jaidi Davis picked up the pitching win going all seven innings, allowing two hits, three walks and striking out five.

Mahomet-Seymour claimed the second contest, 3-1. M-S tallied single runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings. Effingham's lone run came in the bottom of the seventh.

The Hearts had five hits led by Fearday with a single and home run. Morgan Krouse had two singles and an RBI.

At Belleville

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg had a big weekend of softball action.

In Saturday play at Lindenwood University, WSS blanked Heyworth, 10-0 and took an 8-2 win over Breese Mater Dei.

In the Heyworth contest, WSS had nine hits led by Carson Cole with a single, double, home run and three RBI and Hannah Hayes, Mackinzee Reynolds and Karlie Bean with a double each. Reynolds added an RBI.

WSS then handed Mater Dei the loss behind a 15-hit attack.

Cole had two doubles and two RBI, Hayes a single, double and two RBI, Mackenzi Tabbert two singles and a double, Megan Schlechte two doubles, Reynolds two singles, a double and two RBI and Bean a double.

M. Schlechte was the winning pitcher for both games, throwing a two-hitter through four innings in the opener with five strikeouts and going six innings in the second contest, allowing six hits, two walks and striking out six.

In Saturday's games, Windsor/Stew-Stras edged Goreville, 2-1. Goreville had one run in the fourth. WSS tied in the sixth and won in the bottom of the seventh.

Hayes had a solo home run while Bennett and Cole had two singles each.

M. Schlechte picked up another win on the mound going all seven innings, allowing one run on five hits with six strikeouts.

The Hatchets then blanked Benton 11-0 in six innings. WSS had 18 hits led by Cole with a single, two doubles, a triple and an RBI while Tabbert had two singles, a home run and three RBI. Bean had two singles, a double and an RBI and Bennett two singles and an RBI. Hayes added a triple and an RBI.

Bean was the winning pitcher on a two-hitter with one walk and 11 strikeouts.
