Bulldogs Win, EHS Loses, Area Softball Roundup

Effingham St. Anthony blanked Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City in softball action Monday, 10-0 in five innings.

The Bulldogs moved ahead 2-0 in the first inning, tallied two in the third and three runs in the fourth and fifth innings.

St. Anthony had eight hits led by Katie Kabbes with a double, home run and two RBI while Allie Day had a single and double, Liz Day two singles and three RBI and Jessica Coffin a single and an RBI.

A. Day was the winning pitcher, allowing two hits, one walk and striking out 11.

Sydney Dunaway and Lauren Wojcik had a single each for the Bobcats who drop to 0-2 in the National Trail Conference, 0-4 overall.

At Newton

Newton took the early lead and tallied a 6-0 victory over Effingham Monday.

The Eagles led 2-0 after the first inning then added on two in the third and single runs in the fifth and sixth.

Effingham outhit Newton by a 6-4 count. The Hearts were led by Emma Hardiek with a single and double and Carsyn Fearday with two singles.

Newton was led by Kenzi Smith with a single, home run and three RBI. The Eagles improved to 6-2 on the season.

At Kinmundy

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg moved out to a 2-0 first inning lead then pounded home 13 runs in the second inning against South Central Monday. The game ended  in the fourth inning.

The Hatchets pounded out 18 hits, nine of those extra base hits. Carson Cole had two singles, a double, home run and four RBI while Calla Roney had a single, two home runs and five RBI. Mackenzi Tabbert added a triple, two home runs and three RBI, Hannah Hayes a single, home run, an RBI and Ava Bennett a single, double and an RBI.

South Central was led by Katie Shumate with a single and double.

Roney picked up the pitching win, going two innings, allowing two hits, one run, no walks and striking out three.

Casey-Westfield came calling and went home with a 5-1 victory over Teutopolis Monday.

The Warriors had seven hits and were aided by four Wooden Shoes' errors.

T-town was led by K. Mette with two singles and an RBI. The Shoes drop to 2-4 on the season.

At Robinson

Altamont took a 2-0 lead in the third inning and led 6-4 until the fifth when Robinson tied the game at 6-6. The Maroons then tallied ther winning run in the bottom of the sixth.

The Indians had nine hits in the game but committed five errors. Bailey Teasley led the way with two doubles and an RBI while Tinley Mette had a single, double and an RBI. Olivia Williams added two singles and two RBI.

Altamont drops to 3-5 on the season.

Edwards County (Albion) pounded North Clay/Clay City, 16-0 in six innings Monday.

North Clay/Clay City had four hits, a double by Malorie Craig and two singles by Keisha Allen.

NC/CC drops to 0-6 on the season.

 

At Sullivan

Neoga outhit Sullivan 10-5 but the Redskins took the victory 6-5 Monday.

The Indians held a 1-0 lead in the fourth. The score was tied at 2-2 in the fifth before Sulilvan moved ahead 5-2 in the sixth. Neoga came back to tie the score in the seventh sending the game into extra innings.

Sullivan then tallied the winning run in the bottom of the eighth.

Neoga was led by Makenzie Saunders with a double and an RBI.

At Toledo

Villa Grove claimed a 4-3 victory over Cumberland in action Monday.

Villa Grove held a 1-0 lead until the fourth when Cumberland moved ahead 2-1. Villa Grove came back in the fifth with two runs to lead 3-2. The Pirates tied in the sixth. Villa Grove scored the winning run in the top of the seventh.

Hendrix picked up the pitching loss, going six innings allowing six hits, three walks and striking out four.
