S. Central, WSS, Newton, C'land, Neoga Winners In Softball

VANDALIA -- South Central traveled to Vandalia to down the host squad, 11-5 in girls high school softball action Tuesday.

The two squads were tied at 1-1 until the third when the Cougars moved ahead 2-1. South Central then broke the game wide open with an eight-run fourth.

Halle Smith was the winning pitcher allowing three hits, four walks and striking out five. Sydnee Garrett came on for the save allowing one hit, no walks and striking out two in the final inning.

Laney Webster had a single, home run and an RBI for the Cougars while Halle Smith had two singles, a home run and two RBI. Garrett had a double, Lily Malone two singles and two RBI and Jordan Geiler two singles and an RBI.

South Central improved to 4-0 on the season.

At Dieterich

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg jumped out to an 11-0 first inning lead and finished out with a 17-0 win over Dieterich in four innings Tuesday.

The Hatchets had 19 hits led by Mackenzi Tabbert with a single, two doubles and an RBI while Calla Roney had two singles, a double and four RBI, Hannah Hayes two singles, a double and three RBI, Megan Schlechte two singles, a double and four RBI, Ava Bennett two singles and a double and Katrina Davis a single, double and two RBI.

Dieterich had one hit, a single by Jenny Robards.

At Newton

Newton trounced Hutsonville/Palestine 19-2 in four innings Tuesday.

The Eagles took a 2-0 first inning lead then had an 11-run second and a six-run third.

Newton had 15 hits led by Jacey Parr with a single, two doubles and an RBI, Josie Grunloh with three singles and four RBI, Brooke Jansen with a single, double and two RBI, Graci Michl with a double and two RBI, Kenzi Smith with a double and an RBI and Payton Kinder and Kelsi Geltz with two singles each.

Cumberland played host to Altamont and picked up an 8-2 win Tuesday.

The Pirates led 2-0 after the first inning and 6-0 after three. They tacked on two more in the sixth.

Micaela Bradley led the way in hitting for Cumberland with a single, home run and two RBI while Allyson Maynard added a home run and two RBI

Altamont was led by Tinley Mette with a single, home run and an RBI and Abby Goeckner with a double and an RBI. The Indians drop to 2-4 on the season.

Neoga claimed a 6-4 win over Arcola in action Tuesday.

Arcola held a 2-1 first inning lead. Neoga tied in the third. The Purple Riders moved ahead 4-2 in the top of the fifth but Neoga came roaring back with four in the bottom of the frame for the victory.

Elizabeth Titus was the winning pitcher on a five-hitter with one walk and three strikeouts.

Neoga was led in hitting by Makenzie Saunders with a single, home run and four RBI.

Centralia Christ Our Rock Lutheran ended this contest in the fifth inning via the 10-run rule over St. Elmo/Brownstown Tuesday, 15-1.

CORL had 11 hits while SEB finished with two hits and five errors.

SEB had a double by Natalie Oberlink and a single by Cassidy Moss.
