2018 junior high softball regionals got underway Wednesday. Here are the results:

Effingham won a AA contest at Effingham High School, downing Jasper County 4-1. Beck got the complete victory, allowing just one unearned run on four hits and just two walks and 15 strikeouts. Kocher took the loss for Jasper County, allowing two earned runs, six hits and two walks, fanning seven. Frost tripled and singled and drove in a run for Effingham, Niebrugge doubled and drove in a run, and Volpi, Kreke and Beck singled. Grove had two singles for Jasper County, while Kessler and Barthelme each singled. Effingham will next play Saturday at 11:30am.

St. Anthony beat St. Elmo/Brownstown 17-2 at Bulldog Field. Lucy Fearday had quite a day, pitching the full four innings, allowing two unearned runs on just one hit with two walks and nine strikeouts. She also hit for the cycle, a homer, triple, double and single, scored three times and drove in six runs. M. Kibler had three hits including a double and drove in two runs; Coffin had two singles and drove in a run; Faber homered and walked twice and drove in two runs; and C. Rios, Niebrugge, S. Kibler, Quandt, and A. Rios each got a hit. Olivia Baker took the loss for SEB, allowing 15 hits in three innings of work, walking six and fanning two. Sierra Pasley got the lone hit for SEB and Lydia Smith walked twice. St. Anthony will next play Saturday at 9am against Clay City.

Teutopolis beat CHBC 15-0 with Konkel pitching a no-hitter for the Shoes. She walked two and struck out eight. Wojcik took the loss for the Bobcats. Konkel and Gibson each had two hits for T-Town and Sarchet, Althoff, Mette, Kremer, Wilkins, Habing and Hemmen each had a hit. Teutopolis will next play at 10:30am Saturday against South Central.

South Central defeated Dieterich 15-0 with Brooklyn Garrett tossing a no-hitter for the Lady Falcons. She struck out three. At the plate for South Central: Taegan Webster homered twice and drove in three runs; Brooklyn Garrett homered and singled and drove in two runs; Sierra Arnold homered and drove in a run; Brooklyn Cowger tripled and singled and drove in three runs; Hailey Shuler singled twice and drove in a run; Allison Lewis singled and drove in a run; and Jaylyn Michel and Chloe Smith each singled. South Central, now 14-0, will next play Teutopolis at 10:30am Saturday.

Clay City defeated Altamont 7-3. Hance got the win, while Denton took the loss. For Clay City: Hance doubled and singled, Barber singled, and Beck doubled and singled. For Altamont: Becker singled twice, Tedrick tripled, and Lemke and Cripe each singled. Clay City will play St. Anthony at 9am Saturday.

Also Wednesday: Windsor/Stew-Stras beat Mulberry Grove 16-1 and will next play Saturday at 10am at Nokomis; and Cumberland beat Martinsville 12-0 and will next play Saturday at 12:15pm at Casey.
