DIETERICH -- Effingham St. Anthony High School came from behind to edge Dieterich 10-9 in a semifinal game of the Class 1A Dieterich Softball Regional Tuesday.

The Bulldogs took a 2-0 first inning lead and pushed that to 4-0 after three. Altamont came back with a six-run top of the fourth but the Bulldogs regained the lead 8-6 in the bottom of the fourth. The Indians pecked away with a run in the fifth and two in the sixth to tie the score at 9-9. That's when the Bulldogs tallied a run in the bottom of the frame and then held Altamont scoreless in the seventh.

St. Anthony had 11 hits in the game as Allie Day had a single, two doubles and two RBI. Jessica Coffin added a single, double and two RBI. Danielle Having had a triple while Shea Kinkelaar had two singles and an RBI and Karlee Roepke two singles.

Altamont outhit the Bulldogs with 14. Katie Grimsley led the way with three singles while Shelbi Stone had a single, double and an RBI. Olivia Williams, Caitlyn White and Tinley Mette had two singles and an RBI each.

In the opening game, Cumberland pounded Dieterich 16-1 and ended the game in the fourth inning.

The Pirates had a 10-1 first inning then added on four in the second and two in the third.

The Pirates banged out 18 hits in the contest led by Destiny Williams with two singles, a double and three RBI, Sadie Oakley with four singles and four RBI and J. Oakley with two singles and three RBI.

Liberty Dunaway was the winning pitcher on a three-hitter with three strikeouts.

Cumberland is now 22-8 on the season and will meet St. Anthony at 11 a.m. Saturday for the regional championship.

Class 1A Hutsonville/Palestine Regional

South Central easily handled North Clay/Clay City 14-1 in five innings Tuesday.

The Cougars edged out to a 1-0 first inning lead then tallied single runs in the second and third. North Clay/Clay City came back within 3-2 in the third. The Cougars then broke the game open with 11 runs in the fifth.

South Central had 11 hits in the contest led by Sydnee Garrett with a double and two home runs. She hit a solo shot in the first and a two-run blow in the fifth and finished with four RBI. Zoe Johnston had two doubles and two RBI while Katlyn Hilmes had two singles and two RBI.

In the opening contest, Woodlawn downed Cisne 13-3.

South Central improves to 13-7 on the season and moves into the championship game against Woodlawn Saturday at 11 a.m.

Class 1A Moweaqua Central A&M Regional

Neoga came through with two runs in the seventh to pull out a 9-7 victory over Meridian in eight innings Tuesday.

Meridian held a 4-2 lead in the third and a 7-4 lead in the fourth. Neoga came back to knot the score at 7-7 then tallied the winning runs in the eighth. Jessica Nichols singled home the winner.

Molly Sheehan had four singles while Makenzie Saunders had a single, double and two RBI, Jessica Atwell had two singles and two RBI and Kelsey Partlow added two singles and an RBI. Taylor Lee had two singles.

Today's game features Moweaqua Central A&M against Bethany Okaw Valley.

Neoga moves into the championship game against the winner of that contest at 11 a.m. Saturday.

The Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg vs. Ramsey contest was delayed by rain.

Class 2A Vandalia Regional

Teutopolis picked up an opening win at the Class 2A Vandalia Regional Tuesday.

The Wooden Shoes handed Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond a 4-2 loss. T-town trailed 2-1 after four innings then tied the game in the fifth and scored single runs in the sixth and seventh.

Alli Brumleve had a single, home run and drove in two runs for the Shoes while Sadie Bueker contributed two singles and an  RBI.

Brumleve picked up the pitching win on a seven-hitter with three walks and eight strikeouts.

In the opener, Casey-Westfield blanked Pana 6-0.

T-town moves into the championship game Saturday against Casey-Westfield at 11 a.m.

Class 2A Vandalia Regional

Newton claimed a 4-0 win over Trenton Wesclin to moved into the championship game.

The Eagles taliled two runs in the first and two in the sixth. K. Smith threw a three-hitter with one walk and four strikeouts.

T. Smith had a single, triple and three RBI while K. Smith added a double and an RBI.

Newton moves into the title game Saturday at 11 a.m. against either Breese Central or Breese Mater Dei. Those two teams play today.

At Effingham

Effingham High Schol moved ahead with three runs in the third inning. Mount Vernon took a 4-3 lead in the top of the seventh but the Hearts scored two runs to pull out the victory 5-4.

EHS had 10 hits in the contest led by four players with two hits each. McKenzie Wittenberg had a single and double while Skylar Schafer had two singles and two RBI, Lauryn Douthit with two singles and two RBI and Emma Budde with two singles and an RBI.

Aly Armstrong went all seven innings, allowing six hits, four runs, one walk and struck out 11.
