Dieterich, Neoga Advance in Softball Regionals

DIETERICH -- Dieterich edged St. Elmo/Brownstown in girls Class 1A Dieterich Softball Regional action Monday.

The Movin' Maroons scored two runs in the first inning. Molly Niemerg singled then scored on an error. Hannah Hunzinger reached on the error and came home on a wild pitch.

St. Elmo/Brownstown tallied one in the third and that's was the scoring for the game was as Dieterich won 2-1.

Jenny Robards was the winning pitcher going all seven innings, allowing three hits, two walks and striking out five.

SEB had three hits, all singles by Cassidy Moss, Katleyn Maxey and Ayvree Scholes.

Niemerg finished with three singles.

Dieterich advances to face Cumberland at 4:30 p.m. today followed by St. Anthony meeting Altamont at 6:30.

Class 1A Nokomis Regional

Ramsey ended Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City's regional stay with a 4-3 victory Monday.

Ramesy took a 1-0 third inning lead. CHBC moved ahead 3-2 in the top of the sixth. Ramsey scored two runs to win in the bottom of the seventh.

CHBC had only two hits, singles by Kylee Bertin and Zaryah Smith. Madison Cherry and Claire Gardner had an RBI each. The Bobcats end the season with a 1-19 record.

Class 1A Moweaqua Central A&M Regional

Neoga captured its opening round contest in the Moweaqua Regional by pounding Arcola, 16-6.

Elizabeth Titus picked up the pitching win, on a 10-hitter with four strikeouts.

The Indians broke a 2-2 tie in the bottom of the third with three runs then had a two-run fourth and finished the game in the sixth with nine runs.

Titus had two singles, a double and an RBI for the Indians. Molly Sheehan had three singles and two RBI. Makenzie Saunders had two singles, a triple and six RBI. Kelsey Partlow added two singles as did Andrea Estay who also had two RBI.

The Indians advance to face Macon Meridian at 4:30 p.m. today.

Class 1A Hutsonville/Palestine Regional

Cisne won the opening round game over Hutsonville/Palestine by forfeit.

Cisne advances to meet Woodlawn at 4:30 p.m. today followed by South Central taking on North Clay (Louisville) at 6:30.

 

Class 2A Vandalia Regional

Pana ended Vandalia's season in its own regional Monday.

The Panthers edged the Vandals 6-5. Pana now advances to face Casey-Westfield at 4:30 p.m. today followed by Teutopolis taking on Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond at 6:30.

 

Class 2A Breese Mater Dei Regional

Trenton Wesclin claimed the opening round victory over Greenville in the Mater Dei Regional Monday.

Trenton Wesclin was an 8-6 winner and will now face Newton at 4:30 p.m. today.

 

At Mount Zion

Effingham couldn't come up with a win as Mount Zion claimed an Apollo Conference doubleheader Monday.

The  Braves won the opener 11-4. Mount Zion took a 4-0 lead when EHS tallied two in the third. The Braves then had a five-run fifth and scored two more in the sixth. The Hearts mounted a rally in the top of the seventh, scoring two runs but fell short.

In the second contest, Mount Zion was a 9-5 winner behind a 14-hit attack. The Braves improve to 24-6 on the season.

Lauryn Douthit had a single, home run and two RBI for the Hearts.
