The National Trail Conference Softball Tournament got underway at Evergreen Hollow Park Monday.

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg defeated Dieterich 15-0 in five innings. The Hatchets took a 7-0 first inning lead and finished with 12 hits.

Calla Roney threw a two-hitter with five strikeouts.

Roney also aided her cause offensively with a single, double and two RBI. Hannah Hayes led the way with a single, two doubles and two RBI. Madison Everett had a single, double and five RBI. Ava Bennett added a triple and three RBI.

Dieterich's two singles came from Bierman and Niemerg with a single each.

In the second game, St. Anthony claimed a 12-2 win over Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City in six innings.

The two teams were tied at 2-2 in the third. St. Anthony then had four-run fourth and sixth innings sandwiched around a two-run fifth.

Jessica Coffin led the Bulldogs with four singles and an RBI while Karlee Roepke had a single, double and two RBI. Grace Hakman had three singles and an RBI. Katie Kabbes added two singles and Jacy Boatman had a double and an RBI.

CHBC was led by Madison Cherry with a double.

In the third contest, South Central beat Altamont, 11-7.

The two teams were tied at 3-3 after the first inning. The Cougars then tallied two in the third, five in the sixth and one in the seventh.

Katie Shumate and Kayli Swift led the Cougars in hitting with a single and two doubles each. Swlft had four RBI and Shumate two RBI. Jordan Geiler added two singles.

Altamont was led by Katie Grimsley with four singles and an RBI while Tinley Mette had a double, triple and an RBI, Ashley Goeckner two singles, a double and two RBI and Olivia Eckhardt with three singles.

The fourth game went to Neoga over St. Elmo/Brownstown, 8-2.

The Indians edged out to a 1-0 lead in the third inning. SEB tied in the fourth. But Neoga moved ahead with four runs in the fifth and three in the sixth.

Makenzie Saunders led the way for Neoga with two doubles and three RBI. Jessica Atwell had a single, double and two RBI and Kelsey Partlow two singles.

SEB was led by Katleyn Maxey with a double.

The tournament continues Wednesday with WSS against South Central at 4:15 and St. Anthony taking on Neoga at 6:15 p.m. in winner bracket play on the East Diamond. Dieterich faces Altamont at 4:15 and CHBC takes on SEB at 6:15 p.m. in consolation bracket action on the West Diamond at Evergreen Hollow Park.

 At Teutopolis

Teutopolis played host to Vandalia and captured an 8-4 victory to improve to 9-5 on the season.

The Wooden Shoes and the Vandals were tied at 1-1 until the fifth. Vandalia moved ahead 3-1 in the top of the frame but the Shoes came back with five runs in the bottom of the inning then tacked on two more in the sixth.

Marianna Hemmen had two singles and an RBI for the Shoes while Sadie Bueker added a double and three RBI and Karsyn Mette a double and an RBI.

Emma Beckman threw 5.2 innings, allowing one hit, three runs, five walks and struck out five in the pitching win. Allie Niebrugge came on to throw 1.1 innings, allowing two hits, one run, no walks and striking out two.

T-town also won the junior varsity contest, 4-2.

At Toledo

Cumberland handed Oblong a 1-0 defeat in action Monday.

The lone run of the game came in the bottom of the seventh when Claire Guyon crossed the plate. Guyon had a double for the Pirates.

Libby Dunaway was the winning pitcher on a one-hitter with two strikeouts.

The Pirates are now 6-3 in the Little Okaw Valley Conference Southeast Division and 14-7 overall.

At Paris

Newton blanked Paris, 5-0 in action Thursday. The Eagles held a 2-0 first inning lead then added on two in the third and one in the fifth.

Smith picked up the pitching win on a three-hitter with two walks and seven strikeouts.

Smith also had a single, home run and drove in four runs.
