Effingham St. Anthony tallied a 12-6 National Trail Conference softball win over Altamont Thursday.

The Indians took a 2-0 first inning lead and held that until the bottom of the fifth. St. Anthony broke the game open with five runs then tacked on four more in the fourth, two in the fifth and one in the sixth.

The Bulldogs had 13 hits led by Katie Kabbes with two singles, a double and four RBI and Allie Day with three singles and three RBI. Jacy Boatman added two singles and an RBI and Shea Kinkelaar two singles.

Jessica Coffin threw the win, going all seven innings, allowing nine hits, two walks and striking out seven.

Altamont was led by Olivia Eckhardt with a single and double and Shelbi Stone, Ashley Goeckner and Mary Guse with a double each. Goeckner had two RBI. The Indians drop to 3-2 in the conference, 5-12 overall.

The Bulldogs are back in action tonight at the Cross-Creek Classic against Teutopolis at 7 p.m. at Evergreen Hollow Park. Listen on KJ Country 102.3.

At Toledo

Cumberland High School trailed Mattoon 7-4 going into the bottom of the seventh. That's when Sadie Oakley took over.

Oakley hit a two-run homer in the third inning. She then came to bat when the Pirates loaded the bases with one out in the seventh and sent a pitch over the left field fence for a walk-off grand slam to give Cumberland an 8-7 victory.

Cumberland now sports a 13-6 record while Mattoon drops to 10-5 on the season.

At Highland

Teutopolis fell to Highland in action Thursday, 4-3.

The Wooden Shoes held a 3-0 lead through four before Highland tied in the fifth. The Bulldogs then scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh on a walk-off double.

Karsyn Mette had a single, home run and two RBI for the Shoes while Sadie Bueker had a single, home run and one RBI. The Shoes drop to 7-5 on the season.

HIghland improved to 10-3.

T-town is back in action tonight taking on St. Anthony at Evergreen Hollow Park in the Cross-Creek Classic. The game starts at 7 p.m. The Teutopolis junior varsity will meet Newton at 5.

At Strasburg

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg took a 3-0 first inning lead and went on to bounce Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City 17-2 in five innings Thursday.

The win came on a no-hitter thrown by Megan Schlechte. Schlechte allowed two walks and struck out 10.

The Hatchets had 10 hits led by Carson Cole with with two singles and three RBI, Calla Roney with a double and four RBI and Mackenzi Tabbert with a single, double, home run and an RBI.

Windsor/Stew-Stras improves to 15-3 on the season.

CHBC drops to 1-6 in the National Trail Conference, 1-9 overall.

South Central blanked Dieterich 10-0 in six innings Thursday at  Webster Park.

Sydnee Garrett threw a two-hitter with no walks and 10 strikeouts.

Lexie Reid had two doubles and an RBI for the Cougars while Katie Shumate had three doubles and two RBI and Kayli Swift two singles and a double. Serina Lee, Katlyn Hilmes and Jordan Geiler had two singles each. Hilmes and Geiler had two RBI each. Garrett added a double and an RBI.

South Central improves to 7-4 on the season.

Newton handed Robinson a 7-1 loss. The Eagles took a 2-0 first inning lead, had a three-run second and a two-run fifth.

Grunloh had a single, triple and an RBi while Frohning had two singles and an RBI and Geltz a single double and an RBI for the winners.

Smith picked up the pitching win on a one-hitter with three strikeouts.

Oblong pounded Neoga 15-0 in five innings via the 10-run rule Thursday.

Oblong took an 8-0 first inning lead and never looked back, garnering 12 hits in the game.
