Bulldogs, Hatchets, Indians Claim Softball Wins

Effingham St. Anthony handed South Central a 6-1 high school softball loss Thursday.

The Bulldogs stepped out to a 3-0 first inning lead. The Cougars' lone run came in the third.

St. Anthony had 11 hits in the game led by Karlee Roepke with three singles, Allie Day with two singles, a double and an RBI and Liz Day with a single, double and three RBI.

Jordan Geiler led South Central with a single and double while Angelica Rivera had two singles. The Cougars drop to 2-3 in the National Trail Conference, 4-3 overall.

At Strasburg

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg got back on the winning track with an 11-1 victory over Teutopolis Thursday in five innings with the 10-run rule.

WSS broke a 1-1 opening inning tie with a seven-run second and never looked back. Taylor Rentfro led the Hatchets with two singles and four RBI. Carson Cole had a double and an RBI for the winners while Hannah Hayes had two singles and an RBI.

Megan Schlechte picked up the pitching win on a two-hitter with four walks and six strikeouts.

T-town was led by Emma Deters with a double. The Wooden Shoes drop to 4-4 on the season.

At Cowden

Altamont trailed Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City 4-0 after the opening inning but came back with a six-run second and never looked back. The Indians pounded home 17 runs on 15 hits for a 17-7 National Trail Conference win.

Mary Guse led the Indians with a double, home run and five RBI while Caitlyn White and Olivia Williams had a single, double and an RBI each. Abby Goeckner had a single, double and two RBI and Tinley Mette a double, triple and two RBI. Shelbi Stone had two singles and two RBI as did Katie Grimsley.

CHBC was led by Madison Cherry with a double and three RBI and Zaryah Smith with a single and double. CHBC drops to 1-2 in the NTC, 1-5 overall.

Cumberland blanked Neoga in a game that was contested at Eastern Illinois University's softball field Thursday, 5-0.

There was no scoring through the first four innings before the Pirates broke free with two in the fifth and three in the sixth.

Jazzmine Oakley and Destiny Williams had two singles and an RBI each for the winners while Madison Hendrix had a double and an RBI.

Hendrix threw a two-hitter with three walks and 10 strikeouts.

St. Elmo/Brownstown claimed a National Trail Conference win over Dieterich, 16-4 in five innings Thursday.

SEB took a 3-1 opening inning lead then had a four-run second and a six-run third.

Marlee Nolen threw a four-hitter with four walks and four strikeouts.

Cassidy Moss and Katleyn Maxey had three singles and an RBI each for the winners. Emma Gathe had two singles and four RBI.

Dieterich was led by Vahling and Niemerg with a double each.
