MAHOMET -- Coach Jerry Trigg's Effingham High School softball squad captured an Apollo Conference doubleheader over Mahomet-Seymour Tuesday.
The Hearts won 12-9 despite being outhit. EHS pushed into a 4-0 second inning lead and had a five-run fourth.
EHS had 10 hits led by some big bats that included three doubles. McKenzie Wittenberg, Carsyn Fearday and Emma Budde had a single, double and two RBI each. Skyler Schafer added two singles and an RBI.
Aly Armstrong was the winning pitcher, going all seven innings, allowing 12 hits, three walks and striking out 10.
In the second contest, the Hearts again had the big hitters, banging out 17 hits in the contest.
EHS took a 4-0 first inning lead and that was the game. Armstrong had two singles and two doubles while Jaidi Davis had two singles, a double and three RBI. Morgan Krouse had two singles, a double and four RBI. Budde had a single and double and Fearday two doubles and an RBI. Schafer added a double and Lauryn Douthit hit a solo home run.
Davis went the full seven innings, allowing eight hits, six runs, four walks and striking out six.

Effingham St. Anthony called on Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City in National Trail Conference play and blanked the homestanders 14-0 in five innings via the 10-run rule.
The Bulldogs blasted out 16 hits led by Katie Kabbes who produced three home runs and nine RBI. Karlee Roepke had a single and double, Jessica Coffin three singles, Liz Day two singles and two RBI, Danielle Having a double and an RBI and Shea Kinkelaar a double.
CHBC was led by Madison Cherry with a single and double and Kylee Bertin with two singles. The Bobcats drop to 1-1 in the NTC, 1-4 overall.

Teutopolis improved to 4-3 on the season by edging Newton, 2-1 in action Tuesday.
The Eagles took a 1-0 lead in the second inning before T-town tied in the third. The winning run came in the fifth.
Emma Beckmkan and Emma Deters had a single and double each. Marianna Hemmen had a single and an RBI.
Newton was led by Jansen with a double.
Alli Brumleve picked up the pitching win on a three-hitter with no walks and three strikeouts.
Newton won the junior varsity game, 5-0.

South Central tallied a 9-6 National Trail Conference win over St. Elmo/Brownstown Tuesday.
The Cougars moved ahead 4-2 and never trailed the rest of the way.
South Central had 14 hits led by Zoe Johnston with a double, triple and three RBI, Serina Lee with a single and double, Lexie Reid with three singles and an RBI, Angelica River with two singles and two RBI and Katie Shumate two singles and an RBI.
South Central improves to 2-1 in the NTC, 4-1 overall.
BSE was led by Makenzie Parkison with three singles and a double, Marlee Nolen with three singles and an RBI and Natalie Oberlink with two singles and two RBI.

Ramsey came calling and edged Altamont, 11-10 in action Tuesday.
Altamont held a 9-8 lead after three innings. The teams were tied at 10-10 after seven innings. Ramsey then scored the winning run in the eighth.
Both teams had 14 hits. Altamont was led by Olivia Williams with three singles, a double and four RBI, Olivia Eckhardt with two singles and a double, Tinley Mette with a double and an RBI, Shelbi Stone with a single, double and an RBI and Ashley Goeckner with a double and two RBI.
Altamont drops to 2-4 on the season.

Flora broke a 0-0 tie in the fourth inning with three runs and beat Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg, 3-1 Tuesday.
The Wolves had only two hits but WSS committed three errors.
Megan Schlechte led the Hatchets with a single and triple and Hannah Hayes added a single and an RBI.
Flora improves to 10-0 on the season.
