St. A Wins Own Tourney, T-town, Cland Nab Softball Victories

Effingham St. Anthony High School picked up its own round robin softball tournament by downing North Clay (Louisville) and Hutsonville/Palestine Saturday.

The Bulldogs blanked Hutsonville/Palestine, 20-0 in three innings. St. Anthony took a 3-0 first inning lead then had a 15-run second and finished with two in the third.

St. Anthony had 19 hits in the contest led by Katie Kabbes with two singles, a home run and two RBI, Allie Day with two singles, a double and three RBI, Liz Day with three singles, Karlee Roepke with two singles and four RBI, Danielle Having with a single, double and three RBI and Sydney Gibson with two singles and two RBI.

In the second game, St. Anthony edged North Clay, 9-8.

North Clay held a 2-1 first inning lead and led 4-3 after three. The Bulldogs had a five-run fourth to lead 8-5. The Cardinals came back with a run in the fifth but St. Anthony tallied a run in the bottom of the frame. North Clay then had a two-run sixth.

St. Anthony had 13 hits led by Kabbes with a single, 2 doubles, a home run and two RBI while A. Day had three singles and two RBI, Gibson a single, triple and an RBI and Roepke with two singles and an RBI.

North Clay was led by Craig with two singles, a home run and five RBI, Allen with a single, home run and one RBI, Farris a single and double and Craig with two singles.

At Fairfield

St. Elmo/Brownstown fell twice in the Farifield Tournament Saturday.

SEB lost to Fairfield, 7-2. Fairfield led 6-0 after three innings and 7-0 after four.

Cassidy Moss had two singles for SEB.

In the second contest, Salem blanked St. Elmo/Brownstown, 16-0. Salem took a 4-0 first inning lead, tacked on a single run in the second and had an 11-run third.

SEB had no hits as Forehand threw a no-hitter with no walks and four strikeouts for the Wildcats.

Friday's Games

Teutopolis bounced Dieterich in softball competition Friday, 15-1 in five innings.

The Wooden Shoes broke a 1-1 first inning tie with a three-run third, then had a three-run fourth and finished the game with a seven-run fifth.

T-town had 15 hits in the contest led by K. Mette with three hits, J. Schmidt and E. Deters with two each. Mette had three RBI. E. Beckman picked up the pitching win on a six-hitter with 10 strikeouts.

At Dieterich

Vandalia played host to Altamont and picked up a 9-1 victory Friday.

The Vandals held a 4-0 first inning lead and never ooked back. Vandalia had eight hits in the contest and was aided by six Altamont errors.

Eckhardt had a single and double for the Indians while Mette added a double.

Casey-Westfield came calling and captured a doubleheader over Neoga Friday.

The Warriors won the opener 18-5 in five innings. Casey-Westfield had 14 hits in the contest and scored eight in the second and nine in the third.

Neoga was led by Jaclyn Atwell with a double and an RBI.

In the second game, Casey-Westfield won 20-2. The Warriosr stepped out to a 7-0 first inning lead and finished with 14 hits.

Neoga had three hits.

Cumberland claimed a 7-1 victory over Sullivan Friday.

The Pirates stepped out to a 2-0 first inning lead then had a four-run fourth and a one-run sixth.

Liberty Dunaway picked up the pitching wins going all seven innings, allowing one run, one hit, two walks and striking out seven.

Hendrix led the Pirates in hitting with two singles, a home run and five RBI. Oakley had a single, double and an RBI while Guyon had a single and double.

Cumberland improves to 3-0.
