WSS Claims Altamont Regional Title, EHS Drops Regular Season Finale

ALTAMONT -- Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg High School won the Class 1A Altamont Softball Regional championship Monday by edging host Altamont, 3-2.

The Indians took a 1-0 first inning lead and pushed that to 2-0 in the third. WSS then tied the score with a two-run fourth and moved ahead 3-2 in the fifth for the win.

Tabbert had a double, home run and two RBI for the winners while Everett had a single and an RBI. Cole added a double.

Altamont was led by Grimsley and Biggs with a double each. The Indians finish the season at 12-15.

Windsor/Stew-Stras advances to the Okaw Valley Sectional today to face Central A&M at 6:30 p.m.

At Effingham

Highland came calling and claimed a regular season finale over Effingham 10-2 Monday.

Highland banged out 18 hits in the contest while holding Effingham to five. The Hearts had a two-run homer from Fearday and a single and double from Douthit.

EHS now plays host to its own Class 3A Regional which opened play Monday. Decatur MacArthur hosted Decatur Eisenhower but fell to the visitors 8-2.

Decatur Eisenhower now takes on Charleston today at 4:30 p.m. followed by Effingham against Taylorville at 6:30. The winners advance to the regional championship Saturday at 11 a.m.
