The Lake Land College Lady Lakers finished fourth in the nation Friday.

A loss in the third place game Friday still left the Lady Lakers with their highest finish ever in national tournament competition. The event was held in St. George, Utah.

Lake Land won its opener in a thriller Wednesday night, 6-5. The Lakers, the 11th seed, defeated Northeastern Oklahoma A&M, the #6 seed. The final out was recorded when the NEOK baserunner was thrown out trying to steal second.

Lake Land then defeated the #3 seed, Florida SouthWestern State, 16-8 on Thursday, then played three times on Friday, losing to Salt Lake, 6-1, winning 11-3 over Howard, Texas, and then losing 4-0 to Florida SouthWestern State in a rematch from Thursday.

Lake Land finished the season with a 57-14 record.

Effingham High School graduate Hope Collier is among the Lady Lakers.
