Lady Hearts Sweep City Series With 4-0 Win

The Effingham Lady Hearts swept the 2017 City Series Friday with a 4-0 win over the St. Anthony Lady Bulldogs. The game was heard on KJ Country 102.3 and www.kjcountry.com

Effingham scored three times in the bottom of the first. Carsyn Fearday led off with a double and Lauryn Douthit singled to drive in Fearday. Skyler Schafer singled and then Jenna Wright singled to make it 2-0. Alissa Kersey singled to make it 3-0.

It remained 3-0 until the Hearts added a run in the fifth. Fearday walked and stole second. Douthit's single made it 4-0.

Aly Armstrong went the distance for the win. Armstrong pitched every inning of the five games the Hearts played this week, all victories. She allowed just three hits, to Jenna Woltman, Liz Day and Riley Seachrist. She walked two, Jessica Coffin and Woltman. She struck out four.

Jessica Coffin pitched the first three innings, then was pulled due to concerns over her pitching arm. Coffin allowed three runs on five hits, with two walks and three strikeouts. Jenna Woltman pitched the final three innings, allowing one run on two hits and two walks while fanning one.

Effingham won its ninth straight game to improve to 14-8 on the season, while St. Anthony slipped to 16-15.
