Hearts Take 1-0 Lead in City Softball Series

The Effingham Hearts downed the St. Anthony Bulldogs 4-1 Wednesday afternoon in the opener of the 2017 City Softball Series. The game at the EHS softball field was heard on KJ Country 102.3 and www.kjcountry.com

The Hearts took a 1-0 lead in the best-of-three series. Game two is set for Thursday at 4:30pm at Bulldog Field at St. Anthony High School. Hear the game on KJ Country 102.3.

St. Anthony edged out to a 1-0 first inning lead when Katie Kabbes knocked out a home run. The Bulldogs held that lead until the bottom of the fourth when the Hearts scored two runs. Jenna Wright led off with a double and Aly Armstrong drew a walk. Alissa Kersey then followed with a single that scored Wright and the second run scored on an error.

EHS came back with two more runs in the fifth. Lauryn Douthit singled home Carsyn Fearday who had singled. Douthit then scored on another Bulldog error.

Fearday and Douthit had two singles each for the Hearts. Douthit added an RBI. Wright had a double. Armstrong threw a four-hitter with no walks and nine strikeouts.
