Newton, T-town, Altamont, SEB Nab Softball Victories

Newton High School came calling and handed Effingham St. Anthony a 7-2 loss in softball competition Tuesday.

The Eagles and Bulldogs were tied at 1-1 after the first inning. Newton then had a three-run second and fourth innings.

Stanley had a single and double for the Eagles while Shipman added two singles and an RBI, Russell a double and an RBI and Richards a double.

St. Anthony was led by Hakman with two singles and Gibson with a double.

At St. Anthony

At Teutopolis

Teutopolis surged out to a 7-4 opening inning lead and went on to beat Greenville 15-10 Tuesday.

The Wooden Shoes banged out 17 hits in the contest led by Drees and Schmid with two doubles each. Schmid had two doubles and three RBI while J. Drees had two doubles and two RBI. Brumleve had a single, double and two RBI. R. Drees,  Hemmen, Bueker and Niebrugge had two singles each. Drees, Hemmen and Bueker had an RBI each while Niebrugge had two RBI.

The Shoes improve to 3-6 on the season.

Altamont surged out to an 8-0 first inning lead and blanked Vandalia 10-0 in five innings Tuesday.

Biggs threw a one-hitter with two walks and eight strikeouts. Biggs also aided her own cause with a single, double and two RBI. Stone had two singles and an RBI and Grimsley a double and three RBI.

The Indians improve to 3-5 on the season.

St. Elmo/Brownstown edged out to a 1-0 first inning lead and led 4-2 after three. SEB then had a three-run fourth and a five-run sixth.

SEB was led by Brown with a double, triple, home run and five RBI, Philpot with three doubles, Parkison with four singles and an RBI and Moss with two singles.

South Central was led by Johnston with a double and an RBI.

Centralia Christ Our Rock Lutheran downed Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City 11-0 Tuesday.

CORL tallied two in the first, three in the second, third and fifth innings to end the contest.

Bella Doty had the lone hit for CHBC with a single.

At Pana

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg pounded Pana 16-0 in four innings Tuesday.

The Hatchets led 4-0 after the first then tacked on three in the second, seven in the third and two in the fourth.

Schlechte threw a two-hitter with six strikeouts.

Cole had two singles for the Hatchets who improved to 11-2.
