Cumberland Claims Softball Win, Area Roundup

ARCOLA -- Cumberland High School's Madison Hendrix guided the Pirates to a 12-1 win over Arcola in softball action Wednesday.

Hendrix banged out two singles, a home run and garnered three RBI. She also picked up the pitching win on a three-hitter with eight strikeouts.

Jazzmine Oakley also had a big day at the plate with a single, double, triple and two RBI. Micaela Bradley added a double, triple and an RBI.

The Pirates improve to 3-4.

At Shelbyville

Neoga held a 3-0 lead over Shelbyville but the Rams came back with two in the fourth and scored the tying and winning runs in the sixth for a 4-3 victory.

Shelbyville outhit Neoga 9-7 and commited two errors to one for the Indians.

Neoga was led by Elizabeth Titus with a double and an RBI and Jessica Atwell with a single and double.

Neoga drops to 3-3 on the season.

At Windsor

Meridian came calling and edged out to a 2-0 first inning lead then tacked on a run in the second. Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg came back with a run in the bottom of the third and four in the fifth to lead 5-3.

Meridian scored two in the top of the sixth to tie the score at 5-5. But the Hatchets scored in the bottom of the sixth for a 6-5 lead. Meridian then rallied once again with two runs in the top of the seventh and pulled out a 7-6 victory.

Meridian had 13 hits in the contest and was aided by six WSS errors.

The Hatchets had 12 hits led by Carson Cole with two singles, a home run and two RBI.
