NORMAL, Ill. – In their last tune-up before conference play, Illinois State will travel to the FAU Parents’ Weekend Tournament for their annual spring break trip. Illinois State will face five non-conference teams in Boca Raton, Florida before traveling to Indiana State.

The Redbirds begin the FAU Parents’ Weekend Tournament on Friday versus LIU Brooklyn at 12:30 p.m. and tournament host, Florida Atlantic at 5 p.m. The tournament continues with a 10:15 a.m. matchup against Rutgers on Saturday. The Redbirds conclude the weekend against Fordham at 12:30 p.m. and Fairfield at 2:45 p.m. Illinois State closes out their trip to the Sunshine State with a matchup against FAU on Tuesday at 6:15 p.m. before beginning conference play next weekend.

Illinois State returns to action following a 1-4 weekend at the LSU Tiger Invite in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The Redbirds led each of their opponents at the LSU Tiger Invite but one hot inning took away Illinois State’s edge to drop four out of five games. The losses came to No. 10 Minnesota, No. 13 LSU, regional foe, Illinois, and Troy.

Illinois State’s lone win came in 2-1 fashion over Florida Atlantic on Saturday. Pitcher Sarah Finck earned the win in the circle while Alyssa Wiebel’s RBI-triple scored Taylor Vanderpool for the game-winning run.

First baseman Allison Spence recorded her fourth and fifth multi-hit games to lead ISU’s offense this weekend. Catcher Jordan de los Reyes extended her hit streak to eight games before Sunday’s game vs. Minnesota. Freshman Anni Borries, a Teutopolis graduate, slugged a double for her first collegiate hit vs. Troy.

Redbirds vs. The Field

Illinois State holds a combined 3-1 record over the field this weekend, including the most recent win over FAU. The Redbirds won both meetings against Rutgers while dropping the only matchup to Fordham in 2011. It will be the first meeting for the Redbirds against LIU Brooklyn and Fairfield.
