The Effingham Junior High School Mustangs softball team moved into the Final Four at the AA State Tournament in Normal Friday with a 1-0 eight-inning win over Channahon.

The Mustangs scored the only run of the contest in the bottom of the eighth, with Sawyer Althoff the player who scored the only run.

Jaidi Davis had a good game for EJHS, pitching all eight innings and allowing just two hits while walking three, but fanning eight batters. Davis also had two of the Mustangs' seven hits. Also with hits for EJHS were Bella Kronewitter, Emma Hardiek, Kyrsta Dasenbrock, Shelby Stone and Taylor Armstrong.

Effingham improved to 17-3 with the win and is now in a semifinal matchup at 12:30pm Saturday vs. Ottawa Shepherd, who beat Chatham Glenwood 4-0 Friday. Ottawa Shepherd is 16-3.

If Effingham wins the 12:30 game, they will play for the AA state championship at 4:30pm. If they lose at 12:30, they'll turn around and play at 2:30pm for third place.
