Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City saw its bid for the Class A St. Elmo/Brownstown Regional championship go by the wayside with a 4-2 loss to Findlay Okaw Valley Monday.

"This would have been our first ever regional championship in junior high softball," said CHBC Coach Carolyn Wendte. "I don't know what happened. There are no excuses. The pitcher was good but we just wouldn't swing the bat at the strikes. We had too many costly errors and a base running error that shut down an inning we were making a comeback.

"Overall we had a great season, but it just ended too quickly. As the players were told, we have to learn from this setback that we have to play each and every game and take nothing for granted."

Each team had one hit. CHBC was led by Gracie Heckert with a single.

Okaw Valley advances to face Casey-Westfield in its own sectional Saturday at 11 a.m.
