Effingham St. Anthony/Sacred Heart handed Oblong a 5-2 loss by stepping out to a 3-0 first inning lead in junior high softball action Tuesday.

St. Anthony/Sacred Heart had eight hits led by Taylor Ritz with a single and double and Riley Guy with a triple. Cameran Rios had two singles.

Lucy Fearday picked up the pitching win on a two-hitter with two walks and seven strikeouts.

St.  Anthony/Sacred Heart is now 1-1 on the season and is back in action Thursday at Mattoon.

At Oblong

At Teutopolis

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City edged out to a 2-1 first inning lead on Teutopolis and pushed that to 4-1 in the third and 5-1 in the top of the fifth. However, T-town came back with two in the bottom of the fifth and went ahead 6-5 in the bottom of the sixth.

Macy Probst drew a walk for T-town in the bottom of the sixth, stole second and came home on a single by jessica Runde. Isabelle Hemmen drew a walk. Runde and Hemmen then had a double steal and came home on Daischa Piedra's double.

CHBC came back to tie the score in the seventh. But T-town tallied the victory in the bottom of the eighth. Runde reached on an error and Piedra hit Runde in from second base for the win.

"We did lose but we played well," said CHBC Coach Carolyn Wendte. "We just didn't quite get enough offense even though we outhit T-town. We let them move around the bases too much without making contact with the ball. Again, it was a great game for us."

Abby Sloan and Sydney Lorton had two singles each for CHBC. Lorton drove in two runs while Sloan had one RBI.

Teutopolis played a Monday contest against Okaw Valley and won 3-0. Jessica Runde led the way for the Shoes reaching base twice on a hit and hit by pitch and had three stolen bases. Taryn Johnson had a single and drew a walk. She had three stolen bases and scored two of the three RBI for the day. Izzy Hardiek went two-for-three and had two stolen bases.

At Altamont

Altamont played host to Casey-Westfield and dropped a 12-0 decision in five innings via the 10-run rule.

Casey-Westfield tallied a run in the first, had a six-run third, a run in the fourth and three in the fifth.

Altamont had three hits by Mette, Runge and Boedecker. Altamont is back in action Thursday at Okaw Valley.
