Local Players Named to Decatur H&R All-Area Softball Team

Several area players were named to the Decatur Herald & Review All-Area Girls Softball Team.

Named to the First Team was Effingham St. Anthony's Hunter Niebrugge. She holds St. Anthony's career home run record with 25. The senior finshed with 11 doubles, five triples and eight home runs along with 11 stolen bases.

Also named was Teutopolis High School's Kadi Borries, a senior. She made the First Team for the fourth straight year. She finished 15-3 on the mound with a 1.15 ERA and 162 strikeouts. She batted .450 with eight doubles and nine home runs. She will be competing for Illinois State University next season.

Another Wooden Shoe member named to the team was Allison Apke, a senior. She is making her third appearance on the First Team. The third baseman had a .485 batting average with nine home runs and 53 RBI. She will be competing for Bradley University next season.

Also named to the First Team were Lexie Black (Casey-Westfield), Halle McCrory (Tuscola), Anna Watson (Tuscola), Kyleigh Decker (Casey-Westfield), Avery Jackson (Mattoon), Morgan Day (Tuscola), Alexis Estes (Clinton) and Mycaela Miller (Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond).

Aly Armstrong, a sophomore from Effingham, made the Second Team. Armstrong had a 19-5 record as a pitcher for the Hearts with a 1.28 ERA and led EHS to its first ever regional championship.

Teammate Hope Collier also made the team. The senior finished her career on the second team after two straight seasons on the honorable mention list. The third baseman had 44 RBI and finished with a .464 batting average.

Calla Roney from Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg had a .460 batting average with 54 RBI. The freshman pitcher had a 16-3 record and a 2.72 ERA.

Kyla Thornton hit .538 for Cumberland. The senior finished with five home runs.

Morgan Brown, a junior from St. Elmo/Brownstown was the catcher for the squad. She had a .550 batting average with four home runs and 32 stolen bases.

Other members of the team included Sydney Cammon (Flora), Baylee Sparks (Oblong), Maddie Meinhold (Tuscola), Abbey Walsh (Tuscola), Isabelle Shelmadine (Tuscola) and Karli Allen (Tuscola).

The Area Player of the Year was Kyleigh Decker from Casey-Westfield. The Coach of the Year was Lenny Sementi of Tuscola.

Making the Honorable Mention list from the area were Elizabeth Biggs (Altamont), Emily Bone (St. Elmo/Brownstown), Anni Borries (Teutopolis), Brooke Burns (Altamont), Liberty Dunaway (Cumberland), Carsyn Fearday (Effingham), Katie Kabbes (St. Anthony), Abby King (South Central), Danielle Repking (Teutopolis), Maddie Schuette (St. Anthony), Audrey Winters (Altamont), Jenna Woltman (St. Anthony) and Jenna Wright (Effingham).

Other honorable mentions were Kyliegh Basham (Mattoon), Madyson Butkauskas (Pana), Heidi Clements (Sullivan), Conner Cutright (Casey-Westfield), Abbie Dart (Oblong), Holly Davis (Lincoln), Irie Dulin (Sullivan), Allie Dunn (Central A&M), Skylar Freeman (Flora), Natalie Gordon (Charleston), Macy Hance (Clay City), Megan Hance (Clay City), Grace Harlin (Okaw Valley), Delaney Hildebrant (Monticello), Sarah Hill (Olney), Bayleigh Holmes (Clinton), Natalie Jeffers (Okaw Valley), Samantha Johnson (Oblong), Anna Kauffman (Tuscola), Logan Kauffman (Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond), Kelsey Krutsinger (Flora), Tory Matanich (Clay City), Macey McElravy (Charleston), Darian Morgan (Casey-Westfield), Grace Morgan (Vandalia), Ally O'Dell (Charleston), Katie Patton (Taylorville), Makayla Reedy (Monticello), Makenzie Ruppert (Sullivan), Emma Sementi (Tuscola), Lesley Sick (Mattoon), Kailey Talley (Taylorville) and Shelby Youngblood (Mattoon).
