Clutch hitting from Hunter Niebrugge and Katie Kabbes was the difference for the St. Anthony High School softball team Thursday; the Bulldogs will play for the championship of their own Class 1A softball regional after a 4-3 semifinal victory over Altamont in nine innings.

Altamont led twice Thursday, jumping ahead 2-0 in the top of the first inning and breaking a 2-2 tie with a tally in the fifth. St. Anthony was down to its final strike in the bottom of the seventh when Niebrugge saved the day with a game-tying solo home run, and Kabbes came through with a bases-loaded single in the ninth to walk the Bulldogs off.

Jenna Woltman was the winning pitcher for St. Anthony, going the distance. All three runs she allowed were unearned; she walked just three and struck out eight.

Altamont's spring ends with an 11-19 mark, while the Bulldogs improve to 18-15 and will face Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg in Saturday's 11 a.m. title game. The Hatchets, with whom St. Anthony split two games earlier this season, whipped St. Elmo/Brownstown in five innings Wednesday afternoon to advance.
