WSS, Teutopolis Take Softball Regional Wins, EHS Drops DH

Regional action continued in softball as Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg blanked St. Elmo/Brownstown, 10-0 in the Class 1A Effingham St. Anthony Regional Wednesday.

WSS opened with two runs in the second inning then had a five-run third and finished out the contest with a three-run fourth. The Hatchets banged out eight hits in the contest.

B. Schlechte led the way with two doubles and two RBI while Roney had a single, double and an RBI and M. Schlechte a double and an RBI.

Roney pitched the three-hitter with one walk and five strikeouts.

Windsor/Stew-Stras advances to the championship game Saturday at 11 a.m. against either St. Anthony or Altamont who play today at 4:30.

At St. Anthony

Class 1A Casey-Westfield Regional

Oblong handed Hutsonville/Palestine a 5-0 loss in the Casey-Westfield Regional.

Oblong advances to the championship game Saturday  at 11 a.m. against either Neoga or Casey-Westfield who play today at 4:30 p.m.

 

Class 1A Clay City Regional

Clay City continues to move along as the Wolves claimed an 8-1 victory over South Central Wednesday.

The Wolves took a 3-0 first inning lead then led 5-1 after three. Both teams went scoreless over the next two inings before Clay City tacked on three more in the sixth.

Dulaney picked up the pitching win on a six-hitter with no walks and two strikeouts.

Dulaney and Ma. Hance and Me. Hance had two doubles each while Craig had two singles and a double.

South Central's Wilkins had a single and drove in a run while Abby King had two singles. The Cougars finish the season at 8-13.

Class 1 A Bethany Okaw Valley Regional

Beecher City/Cowden-Herrick saw its season come to an end with a 13-0 loss to Bethany Okaw Valley.

Okaw Valley held a 6-0 first inning lead and ended the game in the fifth inning. Maddie Perrine pitched a no-hitter with five strikeouts.

BCCH ends the season with a 1-15 record.

Okaw Valley advances to meet Edinburg Saturday at 11 a.m. for the championship.

Class 2A Tuscola Regional

Cumberland handed Marshall a 5-2 loss. The Pirates tallied two in the third and two in the fourth and finished out one in the fifth.

The Pirates had 11 hits led by Oakley, with a single, double and triple and Thornton with a single, double and an RBI. McMechan had a single, triple and an RBI.

Dunaway pitched the three-hitter with six walks and eight strikeouts.

The Pirates advance  to Saturday's championship game against Tuscola at 11 a.m.

Class 2A Flora Regional

Anni Borries fashioned another good pitching performance by allowing only three hits as Teutopolis beat Robinson 8-3.

Borries allowed three walks and struck out two in the seven inning victory.

Robinson edged out to a 2-1 first inning lead but the Shoes tallied three runs in the third and had the game in hand. Danielle Repking had a single, double and drove in three runs for the Shoes. Apke added a double and three RBI.

T-town advances to the championship game today against Flora at 4:30 p.m.

Flora blanked Newton 3-0 in the second game. The Wolves tallied a run in the first then tacked on two more in the fifth.

The Eagles outhit Flora 7-4 but committed four errors.

At Effingham

In regular Apollo Conference season action, Mount Zion claimed a doubleheader over Effingham Wednesday.

The Braves won the opener 5-3 in eight innings. The Hearts took a 3-0 lead in the second inning but Mount Zion came back with two in the fifth and tied in the sixth. The game went into the eighth before the Braves tallied two for the win.

EHS outhit Mount Zion 8-7 but had three errors. Carsyn Fearday had a double and two RBI while Madison Weis had a single, triple andn an RBI. Chloe Funneman contributed two singles.

In the second game, Effingham took a 2-0 first inning lead but Mount Zion came back with a vengeance, taking a 6-2 lead then brought home 10 runs in the fourth to end the game 16-2 in five innings.

Mount Zion had 12 hits in the contest led by Kennedy with two singles, a double, home run and four RBI. Effingham had five hits led by Hope Collier with two singles, a home run, and two RBI. Weis, added two singles.
