Woltman Throws No-Hitter as Bulldogs Win, Area Softball Roundup

Effingham St. Anthony's Jenna Woltman threw a no-hitter as the Bulldogs blanked Dieterich 12-0 in softball action Monday.

Woltman went six innings, allowing no hits, no walks and striking out seven.

Teammates, meanwhile banged out 11 hits in the contest led by Alli Day with two singles and two RBI and Abbie Schmidt with a double and an RBI. Danielle Having and Shea Kinkelaar had a single and drove in two runs each.

At Altamont

Neither team scored through the first two innings, but Effingham found it's range with a four-run third, tacked on a run in the fourth and nine more in the fifth for a 14-2 win over Altamont.

The Hearts banged out 15 hits in the contest, five of those extra base hits. Skyler Schafer led the way with two singles, a double and two RBI while Aly Armstrong and Kaylee Tonn had two singles and two RBI each. Carsyn Fearday contributed a single, double and an RBI and Hope Collier a double and an RBI.

Jenna Wright and Alissa Kersey had a single and drove in two runs each.

Altamont was led by Burns, Winters and Stone with a single each. Collier picked up the three-hit pitching win with one walk and five strikeouts.

Altamont played a game before facing the Hearts and picked up a 7-2 National Trail Conference win over Neoga.

Altamont led 1-0 until Neoga tied in the third and took a 2-1 lead in the top of the fourth. However, Altamont had a big six-run fourth inning for a 7-2 victory.

Winters pitched a one-hitter. Burns had three singles for Altamont while Duckwitz had a double and two RBI. Neoga's lone hit came from Vondrak with a single.

Altamont is now 4-1 in the NTC, 8-15 overall.

Odin played host and picked up a 4-1 win over South Central Monday evening.

Odin stepped out to a 1-0 first inning lead. Neither team scored again until the sixth when the Eagles tallied three runs. South Central broke through with a run in the top of the seventh.

South Central was led in hitting by Lexie Reid with a single, double and an RBI. The Cougars drop to 6-8 overall.

At Olney

Newton handed Olney a 7-3 loss in action Tuesday.

The Eagles trailed Olney 3-0 until the fourth then broke loose for six runs and went on for a 7-3 victory.

Hardiek pitched the two-hitter with one walk and seven strikeouts. Earnest had a single, double and an RBI for the Eagles while Richards and Stanley had two singles each.

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg claimed a National Trail Conference win over St. Elmo/Brownstown, 16-2

SEB took a 1-0 first inning lead but Windsor/Stew-Stras came back with a five-run second and ended the game in the fifth via the 10-run rule.

St. Elmo/Brownstown dropped to 2-17 overall.

Oblong edged Cumberland 2-1. The Pirates held a 1-0 lead after three innings but Oblong brought home two runs in the bottom of the sixth for the victory.

Sparks picked up the pitching win on a five-hitter with nine strikeouts.
