Saturday Softball Regional Results

Here's a look at the results of Saturday's regional softball championship games:

The St. Anthony Bulldogs captured the championship of the St. Elmo/Brownstown 1A Regional with an 11-1 five-inning victory over the Altamont Lady Indians.

St. Anthony began the scoring with five runs in the bottom of the second inning, added four runs in the fourth and scored two runs in the fifth inning to win by the 10-run rule. Altamont scored their lone run in the third inning.

Jenna Woltman pitched a three-hitter for St. Anthony, walking three while striking out eight. Elizabeth Biggs took the loss for Altamont, allowing seven earned runs on 12 hits, walking just one with one strikeout.

At the plate for St. Anthony, Paige Koester singled and walked, drove in a run and scored twice, Morgan Gardewine singled twice, drove in a run and scored, Woltman singled twice, scored and drove in a run, Megan Nuxoll tripled and singled, drove in three runs and scored, Maddie Schuette singled and scored, Marci Mills singled twice, drove in a run and scored twice, Laura Gurtner singled, drove in two runs and scored twice, Danielle Having singled and drove in a run, and Will scored a run.

Altamont got singles from Keidron Duckwitz, Brooke Burns and C. McHugh with Duckwitz scoring the lone run. Burns, Hoene and Phillips each drew a walk.

St. Anthony will play in their own sectional at Bulldog Field at St. Anthony High School. Altamont, the defending state 1A champions, was a squad decimated by graduation, but fought back to finish around .500 with a very young ballclub.

St. Anthony will play Tuesday at 4:30pm against Cumberland, which defeated Casey-Westfield, 5-2, to win the Hutsonville 1A Regional. Hear the game on 979XFM and www.979xfm.com

The Teutopolis Lady Shoes continued their journey back to the 2A state championship game by winning the Robinson 2A Regional, defeating a tough Paris team, 4-0. Madison Cowman and Kadi Borries teamed up on the shutout for T-Town, while Kadi Borries hit a two-run home run and Anni Borries doubled home a run. Cowman also singled and scored, Danielle Repking singled, Patricia Campbell walked twice, Amanda Waldhoff walked, and Raegan Drees singled and walked and scored a run. 

Cowman pitched five innings, allowing four hits and walking two while fanning six. Kadi Borries pitched two perfect innings, striking out two.

Teutopolis, now 24-2, will play at their own 2A Sectional. Game time is Tuesday at 4:30pm against Fairfield, who won their own regional over Mt. Carmel, 7-4. Hear the game on KJ Country 102.3 and www.kjcountry.com
