Bulldogs Advance In Softball Regional, Area Scores

Effingham St. Anthony moved into the championship game of the Class 1A St. Elmo/Brownstown Softball Regional by downing Beecher City/Cowden-Herrick.

The Bulldogs trailed BCCH 2-1 in the top of the second but came back with two runs to move ahead in the bottom of the frame then broke the game wide open with a 10-run third and finished the game in the fifth via the 10-run rule, 16-2.

St. Anthony pounded out 16 hits in the contest led by Megan Nuxoll with two singles, a triple and three RBI, Maddie Schuette with a single, double and two RBI, Paige Koester and Hunter Niebrugge with three singles and an RBI each and Morgan Gardewine with two singles and an RBI.

Jenna Woltman pitched a two-hitter with four walks and eight strikeouts.

In the second game of the day, Altamont downed St. Elmo/Brownstown 11-1 in six innings.

The Indians stepped out to a 5-0 first inning lead. SEB tallied a run in the third but Altamont scored three in the fifth and ended the game via the 10-run rule in the sixth with three runs.

Goeckner had three singles, a double and an RBI and Winters two singles, a triple and four RBI for the winners. Duckwitz chipped in with three singles and an RBI.

Fitch had a single and double while Calhoun had three singles and an RBI for St. Elmo/Brownstown.

Altamont advances with an 11-11 record to face St. Anthony at 11 a.m. Saturday for the regional championship.

Class 1A Stewardson-Strasburg Regional

Neoga saw its season come to an end in the Stew-Stras Regional Tuesday.

Bethany Okaw Valley bounced the Indians 20-0 in five innings. Okaw Valley scored six in the first, five in the second and nine in the third. McClain pitched a no-hitter with four walks and nine strikeouts.

Okaw Valley advances to the championship game Friday at 4:30 p.m. against either Stewardson-Strasburg/Windsor or Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond. Those two teams play today at 4:30 p.m.

Class 1A Woodlawn Regional

South Central's season came to a close with a 15-1 loss to Wayne City.

Wayne City held a 7-1 first inning lead then tallied eight in the third and the game ended in the fifth.

Abby King had a triple and an RBI for the Cougars while Mia Campbell had a single. South Central ends the sesaon with a 10-14 record after only winning two games last season.

The Cougars will lose three seniors, Campbell, Jordan Schaal and Bailey Ritter.

"They will be missed and have helped to improve our program the four years they were here," said Coach Kapper.

Wayne City advances to the championship game Saturday at 10 a.m. against either Woodlawn or Odin. Those two teams play today at 4:30.

Class 1A Hutsonville/Palestine Regional

Casey-Westfield easily handled Hume Shiloh in the Hutsonville/Palestine Regional.

The Warriors advance to the Saturday championship game at 11 a.m. against either Cumberland or Hutsonville/Palestine. Those two teams play today at 4:30 p.m.

 

Class 2A  Robinson Regional

Teutopolis continues to roll along as the Wooden Shoes easily dispatched of their opponent, Marshall, 16-1 in five innings.

The Shoes took a 4-1 first inning lead then had a 10-run third and tacked on two final runs in the fourth.

T-town banged out 10 hits in the contest led by Kadi Borries with a single and a three-run homer in the first. Danielle Repking had a single, double and two RBI while Amanda Waldhoff added a double and three RBI and Raegan Drees a triple and two RBI. Anni Borries chipped in with three singles and an RBI.

K. Borries picked up the pitching win, going three innings, allowing one run, two hits and striking out five. Madison Cowman came on in the fourth and pitched two innings, allowing two hits, one walk and striking out two.

T-town is now 23-2 on the season and advances to the championship game Saturday at 11 a.m. against either Newton or Paris, who play today at 4:30 p.m.

Class 2A Robinson Regional

Mount Carmel downed Flora 4-2 in the Fairfield Regional.

Mount Carmel advances to the title contest at 11 a.m. Saturday. Fairfield takes on Lawrenceville at 4:30 p.m. today for the right to advance to the championship.
