LLC Claims Division II National Softball Win

CLINTON, MS. -- Lincoln Land Community College won game one at NJCAA Division II Softball Nationals by defeating 10th seeded Sauk Valley 8-0 in five innings Wednesday.

Four home runs lifted the Loggers past Sauk Valley. Rachel Hastings started the onslaught of homers with a two out solo blast to centerfield. Rachel Wisner was hit by a pitch. Desiginated hitter Cindy Garces stroked a base hit down the left field line to drive in Wisner. Miranda Esperum followed with a two-run homer to left field.

Again with two outs, Courtney Reeves hit a line drive solo home run to right center. Wisner led off the seventh inning with a walk-off homer to left field to win the game in five innings.

Courtney Reeves was 2-for-3, with two RBIs and Wisner was 2-for-2 with an RBI. Taylen Balding went 2-for-2 to help the Loggers to victory.

Hayley Long was the winning pitcher in the shutout. Long (20-4) threw all five innings and allowed three hits, one walk and five strikeouts.

Area players members of the Loggers are Lauren Ohnesorge and Madison Ohnesorge from Altamont and Lindsay Floyd of Windsor.

LLCC will advance to play No. 2 seeded Mississippi Gulf Coast College at 3:30 p.m. today. LLCC is now 44-12 on the year.
