Stew-Stras/Windsor Wins NTC Tournament Championship

Stewardson-Strasburg/Windsor captured the championship of the National Trail Conference Softball Tournament Wednesday afternoon, defeating the St. Anthony Bulldogs, 5-3. St. Anthony won the regular season conference championship.

SSW pushed ahead 3-0 in the first inning then tacked on a run in the fourth and a run in the top of the sixth to lead 5-0. The Bulldogs scored two in the bottom of the sixth and one in the seventh, only to fall short.

Everett led the winners with two singles and two RBI while Knop added a single and double and Rentfrow two singles and an RBI.

St. Anthony was led by Jenna Woltman with two singles and an RBI. Marci Mills had a single and two RBI.

The third place contest went to Altamont over Neoga 10-3. The score was tied at 1-1 after the second inning. Altamont took a 3-1 lead in the third and was never headed again.

Goeckner and Burns led in hitting with three singles each. Goeckner had one RBI while Burns had five RBI. Winters had a double and two RBI.

Neoga was led by Blazich and Lee with two singles each. Blazich added an RBI.

The consolation championship was claimed by South Central with a 3-1 win over St. Elmo/Brownstown.

The Cougars' three runs all came in the fourth inning. Mia Campbell had three singles, a double and drove n two runs for the winners. Bailey Ritter added a single and triple while Serina Lee had a double and an RBI.

"This game was very well played by both teams," said South Central Coach Kapper. "We hit the ball hard. SEB's outfielders made some very good catches. Our defense made some plays when we had to. We were able to string our hits together hen we needed them. Abby King pitched well tonight and the girls backed her up."

St. Elmo/Brownstown was led by Kyrstyn Fitch with two singles.

"This was a good softball game," said SEB Coach Tom Fedrigon. "I was very proud of the way the girls battled and the way they played defense."

At Effingham

Effingham High School finished up an Apollo Conference contest that was started last Saturday and weathered out.

The Hearts claimed a 12-4 win over Salem to improve to 4-6 in the conference, 14-10 overall.

EHS had 11 hits in the contest led by Morgan Wilson with a single, double and two RBI, Madison Weis with a single, double and an RBI, Brittany Beals with a double and two RBI and Jenna Wright with a single, two doubles and three RBI.
