EHS Beats Altamont, Area Softball Roundup

ALTAMONT -- Effingham broke a 2-2 tie with a run in the third then added on two in the fourth and one in the sixth for a 6-2 softball victory Tuesday.

Hope Collier picked up the pitching win. She went four innings, allowing one hit, two runs, four walks and striking out eight. Aly Armstrong came on in the fifth and allowed one hit while striking out seven.

Jenna Wright had two singles, a home run and an RBI for the Hearts. Shelby Borries added a double.

Shelby Philips and Erica Higgs had the Indians two hits, singles.

Effingham improves to 7-4 on the season while Altamont drops to 5-9.

At  Dieterich

Dieterich picked up a 7-3 win over Beecher City/Cowden-Herrick Tuesday.

The Movin' Maroons jumped out to a 3-0 opening inning lead.  Vahling hit a single and two home runs. She finished with three RBI. Heuerman and Deain added a double and an RBI each.

BCCH was led by Kirchhofer with three singles, Adams with two singles and Doty with a double.

At St. Elmo

Mulberry Grove handed St. Elmo/Brownstown an 11-6 loss behind an 11-hit attack.

Mulberry Grove took a 4-1 first inning lead and never looked back, holding off a fifth inning challenge by the Eagles.

Darby Moss and Tessa Philpot had two singles each. Philpot added two RBI. Audriana Pruett had a triple.

"We played much better this game, at least in the fact that we did not give up and played hard the entire game," said SEB Coach Tom Fedrigon. "We did a good job of competing and had a nice comeback inning. We need to do a better job of concentrating on defense with two outs. We gave up six runs with two outs."

The Eagles are now 3-1 in the Egyptian-Illini Conference, 6-16 overall.

Teutopolis pushed its record to a perfect 14-0 with an 11-1 win over Marshall in five innings via the 10-run rule.

The Wooden Shoes held a 1-0 first inning lead then tacked on another run in the second, one in the fourth then broke the game open with an eight-run fifth.

Kadi Borries had the lone extra base hit with a double. Four other players had a single each.

T-town also claimed the junior varsity contest, 15-2.

The Wooden Shoes will be back in action Friday, taking on Effingham St. Anthony in the Cross Creek Classic.

Tuscola leaped out to a 14-0 first inning lead and added two runs in the third. Tuscola had 12 hits in the contest. Meinhold pitched a no-hitter with one walk and 12 strikeouts.

Flora had seven hits in the contest while Kelsey Krutsinger improved her pitching record to 4-1 with a two-hitter and 17 strikeouts.
