EHS Sweeps Doubleheader; Other Friday Games

Effingham ran its early-season record to 3-0 with a doubleheader sweep of St. Elmo/Brownstown Friday, 22-0 and 19-0, allowing just one hit in the process.

Hope Collier pitched the opener for Effingham, allowing a single to Krystyn Fitch for the only SEB hit. Collier fanned 10 batters. 

At the plate, Collier helped her own cause, hitting a three-run home run in the fourth and driving in four runs. Also for Effingham, Madison Weis doubled and drove in three runs, Kaylee Tonn doubled and singled and drove in three runs, Jenna Wright doubled and singled and drove in four runs, and Aly Armstrong and Alissa Kersey each singled and drove in a run.

In the nightcap, Aly Armstong tossed a no-hitter and did not walk a batter while fanning eight. Two EHS errors prevented the contest from being a perfect game. 

Jenna Wright had the big game offensively, homering twice and singling while driving in six runs. That gave her 10 RBI in the doubleheader. Also for Effingham: Morgan Wilson homered and singled and drove in four runs, Madison Weis doubled and drove in two, Hope Collier singled and drove in two runs, and Morgan Kinkelaar singled and drove in a run.

St. Anthony posted a 12-1 five-inning win over Neoga at Bulldog Field Friday.

Jenna Woltman went the distance, allowing four hits and no walks while fanning four. Neece took the loss for Neoga.

At the dish, Morgan Gardewine singled twice and drove in a run, Paige Koester singled, Hunter Niebrugge doubled and drove in three runs, Megan Nuxoll singled and drove in a run, Maddie Schuette doubled, Gurtner singled, Abby Schmidt doubled and drove in two runs, and Danielle Having doubled and drove in three.

Atwell and Roderick each had two hits for Neoga.

Teutopolis improved to 9-0 on the spring with a 19-9 win over Flora.

The Shoes pounded out 20 hits en route to the win.

Madison Cowman started the game and went four innings, allowing a hit and two walks while fanning six. Sidney Brumleve pitched an inning, allowing six runs, just one earned, on four hits including a home run, walking one and striking out a batter. Anni Borries pitched an inning, allowing an unearned run and walking a batter while recording a strikeout. Kadi Borries pitched the final inning, allowing two unearned runs, walking three and striking out a batter.

Of the nine runs allowed by T-Town, only one was earned.

Allison Apke led the way at the plate for the Lady Shoes, going five-for-five including a home run and driving in three runs. Julie Wente hit two home runs including a grand slam, singled and drove in five runs. Also for T-Town: Madison Cowman singled twice and walked three times and drove in two runs, Anni Borries homered, doubled and singled and drove in three runs, Kadi Borries tripled and singled and drove in a run, Sidney Brumleve drove in a run, Amanda Waldhoff singled twice and drove in a run, and Reagan Drees singled three times and drove in a run.

Crimson Jones homered for Flora.

Dieterich outlasted Beecher City/Cowden-Herrick 8-6 Friday.

Mallorie Vahling got the win for Dieterich and homered and doubled, driving in three runs. Also for Dieterich: Sam Dial singled twice and drove in a run, Kallee Heuerman singled and drove in a run, Hailey Deain doubled and singled and drove in a run, Mickala Klay singled, Hanna Ruholl singled, Hannah Hunzinger singled, and Lauren Garbe doubled and singled.

Vahling pitched 2-1/3 innings, allowing five runs, four earned, on five hits and four walks, while hitting a batter and fanning two. Hanna Ruholl pitched 4-2/3 innings, allowing one run on two hits, walking two and striking out a batter.

Felicia Johnson went the distance for BCCH, allowing eight runs, six earned, on 12 hits, walking two and striking out three.

At the plate for BCCH: Timber Gates singled and drove in a run, Amanda Pierce doubled, Taylor Oldham singled and drove in three runs, Felicia Johnson singled and drove in a run, Billie Kollman singled twice, and Alicia Adams duobled.

BCCH is still looking for its first win of the spring.
