Effingham Sweeps Paris in Apollo Doubleheader; Altamont Wins Over St. A; Other Thursday Softball Results

Effingham swept a softball doubleheader with Paris in Apollo Conference action Thursday.

The Hearts won the opener, 9-6, and captured the nightcap, 11-8, in action at Paris.

Hope Collier went the distance to post the win in the opener, allowing six runs, but only two earned runs in her seven innings of work.  Collier gave up just three hits, but walked six, striking out one opponent.  Jenna Wright also homered, as she and Collier went back-to-back.

Collier helped her own cause with a home run and single and drove in two runs.  Also at the plate for the Hearts: Madison Weis--2 singles, RBI; Kaylee Tonn--double and single, RBI; Jenna Wright--home run and single, RBI; Morgan Wilson--double and single, two RBI.

In the nightcap, the Hearts scored four runs apiece in the third and fourth innings as part of a 16-hit attack.  

Kaylee Tonn pitched 6-1/3 innings, allowing four runs on eight hits, walking four and fanning two.  Collier gave up a hit but recorded two strikeouts to post the save after Paris scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh.

Collier continued her great doubleheader with two more home runs and five more RBI.  Also for Effingham: Madison Weis--double and single; Shelby Nunamaker--single; Kaylee Tonn--double and three singles, RBI; Jenna Wright--two doubles; Katie Roberts--two singles, RBI; Morgan Kinkelaar--triple; Morgan Wilson--two singles.

Effingham, with the doubleheader sweep, improved to 6-8 on the spring.

Altamont defeated St. Anthony 9-3 Thursday in softball action.

It was a scoreless game until the third when Altamont scored twice and then added two more runs in the fifth, four in the sixth and a final run in the seventh inning.  St. Anthony scored its runs in the fifth inning.

Deidre Ledbetter went the distance to claim the win for Altamont, allowing three runs, two earned, on three hits and a walk while fanning eight.  Jenna Woltman took the loss for St. Anthony, allowing all nine runs on 10 hits in six innings of work, walking nine while recording one strikeout.  Makayla Walsh pitched a perfect ninth.

At the plate for Altamont: Madison Ohnesorge--two singles, 2 RBI, run; Josie Phillips--double, run; Deidre Ledbetter--two singles, three runs scored, 1 RBI; Lauren Ohnesorge--home run, two runs scored, two RBI; Lauren White--two singles, 4 RBI; Alex Teasley--two singles; Nikki Tharp--run scored; Audrey Winters--run scored.  

For St. Anthony: Hunter Niebrugge--double, run scored; Kate Richards--single, run scored; Kristen Schuette--RBI; Maddie Schuette--single, RBI; Megan Nuxoll--RBI.

The Dieterich Movin Maroons pounded Martinsville Thursday, 16-0, and got a one-hit shutout from Thoele, who walked three and struck out three in giving Dieterich its third win of the spring.

Thoele also had two hits, walked and scored twice.  Also for Dieterich: Higgs--two walks, two runs scored; Vahling--double and single and walk, two RBI, three runs scored; Boerngen--walk, run scored; Bannick--single and walk, run scored; Wright--walk, RBI, two runs scored; Cox--two hits, walk, two runs scored; Brummer--three singles, two RBI; Heuerman--single, run scored, two RBI

Stewardson-Strasburg/Windsor won over Beecher City, 12-2 in a five-inning game Thursday.

Kendall Knop picked up her 10th win of the spring for Stew-Stras/Windsor, who scored their 12 runs on just five hits.  Nine Beecher City errors doomed the Eagles, who mustered only two hits.

Kirby Herrmann took the loss for Beecher City, allowing 12 runs, but just one earned in 4-2/3 innings of work, giving up five hits and six walks while striking out three.  Knop gave up just one earned run on two hits, walking two but striking out seven.
