MUNSTER, Ind. -- The Purdue University Calumet softball team split its doubleheader with Lindenwood Belleville Saturday afternoon at Munster Community Park. The Peregrines run-ruled the Lynx, 10-1, in the opener, before suffering an 8-1 defeat in the nightcap to move to 26-8 on the year.

GAME ONE – Purdue Calumet 10, Lindenwood Belleville 1

The Black and Gold broke open a scoreless game in the bottom of third, pushing three runs across in the inning. Ashley Adams drove in the first two runs of the contest with a double to right field, before Altamont graduate Hailey Flexter’s RBI single to center made it 3-0.

Purdue Calumet’s offense was just heating up though, putting the game out of reach with a seven-run fourth inning. After RBI singles by Abbi Fahse and Ashley Adams, Flexter drove in a pair with another single. Olivia Donley added to the damage, clearing the bases with a blast over the left field fence.

The Lynx broke up Shelbie Jones’ shutout bid in the top of the fifth, but the sophomore hurler shut the door on the rally to improve to 12-4 on the year after giving up just three hits. Purdue Calumet went 11-for-22 in the opener, as four players recorded multiple hits in the game.

GAME TWO – Lindenwood Belleville 8, Purdue Calumet 1

The two teams’ roles reversed in the nightcap, as the Black and Gold’s bats tallied just one hit through the first five innings. Meanwhile after three scoreless innings to start the contest, the Lynx took advantage of a controversial call at the plate to break into the scoring column.

Lindenwood Belleville, the 2013 USCAA National Champions, continued that momentum, scoring a pair of runs in each of the final four innings to grab a commanding lead. Purdue Calumet rallied in the home half of the sixth, scoring its only run of the game on Fahse’s two-out double over the head of the center fielder. The Peregrines loaded the bases following the double, but were unable to punch in another run.

Kimble took the loss for just the second defeat in her last eight starts, surrendering four runs, two earned, in five innings of work. Skyler Woods posted two base knocks to lead the Peregrines, who were held to four hits in the game.

Purdue University Calumet swept Cardinal Stritch in its final home doubleheader of the season Sunday at Munster Community Park. The Peregrines claimed a 4-1 victory in the opener, before pulling out a thrilling 5-4, nine-inning win in the nightcap.

GAME ONE – Purdue Calumet 4, Cardinal Stritch 1

The Black and Gold raced out to a quick 2-0 lead in the opening inning of play, as Abbi Fahse and Brittney Adams each drove in runs. The Wolves scored their only of the contest in the top of the second thanks to a long ball from Erika Kramer to trim the deficit to one, 2-1.

However, starting pitcher Alison Kimble would shutout CSU the rest of the way, as she pitched her 13th complete game of the season to improve to 15-4 overall. The Peregrines’ offense would add a pair of insurance runs in the bottom of the second inning on Ana Duda’s two-run double to deep center field to seal the victory.

Purdue Calumet made the most of its six hits in the contest, converting those opportunities into four runs. Fahse and Woods each notched two hits to pace the Black and Gold.

GAME TWO – Purdue Calumet 5, Cardinal Stritch 4

The series finale played like a heavyweight bout with both teams trading shots throughout the game, but it was the Peregrines who would strike the final blow in the bottom of the ninth inning. Brittney Adams stepped up with the heroics this time around, plating Skyler Woods with a single in the gap in right center field.

Shelbie Jones went the distance in the game two, giving up four runs on seven hits in nine innings of work to improve to 13-4 on the season.

The Wolves scored the opening run of the game in the series finale, but the Peregrines would come back with three runs in the bottom of the fourth to grab a 3-1 advantage thanks to a pair of miscues by CSU. However, Cardinal Stritch would use a three-run inning of their own to regain the lead, 4-1, heading into the bottom of the sixth.

Purdue Calumet loaded the bases in the home half of the sixth, before scoring the equalizer after Alicia Ward drew a walk to plate Abbi Fahse and force extra innings. Jones kept the Wolves in check over the two extra frames, allowing Adams to come up with the game-winning hit.

Flexter had two singles in the contest.
