Millikin senior shortstop Meghan Matthews (Clinton, H.S.) had walk-off game winning hits in both games to lift the Millikin Big Blue to a doubleheader sweep of Monmouth College Sunday at Borg Warner Field in Decatur. Millikin won both games 3-2.

Trailing in game one 2-0 in the fourth, Millikin began its comeback on a sacrifice fly by Hillary Shelton (Beecher City, H.S.). Alyssa Visvardis (Homer Glen, Lockport Township H.S.) had an RBI double in the fifth to tie the game at 2-2.

Millikin scored the game winner in the bottom of the seventh when Rachael Bishop (Villa Grove, H.S.) opened the inning with a double. Matthews then doubled home Bishop with the winning run.

Visvardis and Abbie Tinnon (Bartonville, Limestone Community H.S.) each had two hits in game one for Millikin. Taylor Hull (Decatur, MacArthur H.S.) earned the pitching victory allowing six hits and one earned run over seven innings while striking out five.

In game two, Matthews kept her hot hitting going when she led off the bottom of the first with a homerun to tie the game at 1-1.

Monmouth went up 2-1 in the third, but Millikin tied the game in the sixth inning on a two out error by the Fighting Scots.

In the bottom of the seventh, Rachel Kindred (Ottawa, H.S.) reached on a two base error. One out later, Matthews singled home pinch runner Kelsea Cline (Decatur, Auburn H.S.) with the game winner.

Freshman Nicole Koch (Morton, H.S.) earned the win on the mound in relief throwing three innings allowing only two hits and no runs.

Millikin had its eight game winning streak stopped when it dropped its CCIW opening doubleheader at No. 20 North Central College Saturday in Naperville.
North Central won game one 9-4 and took the second game 10-4.

In game one, Visvardis led the Big Blue hitters in game one going 2-3 including a two-run homer in the first inning. Matthews was 2-4 with an RBI and a double. Kindred had an RBI double for Millikin in the second inning.

Marissa Padilla (Oak Forest, H.S.) led Millikin in game two going 3-4. Matthews was 2-4 with a double and an RBI. Becca Thompson (Hanover Park, Schaumburg, H.S.) and Kindred had Millikin’s other RBIs.
