Altamont Edges Cumberland, Area Softball Roundup

ALTAMONT -- Altamont High School picked up another big softball victory as the Indians edged Cumberland 3-2 in action Tuesday evening.
The Pirates, ranked No. 1 in the Illinois Coaches Association pre-season rankings, took a 1-0 first inning lead. But that didn't last long as Altamont tallied two runs in the third. Cumberland knotted the score at 2-2 in the fifth. Altamont then scored the game-winning run in the seventh.
Altamont, ranked sixth in the pre-season poll, was led by Josie Phillips and Brooke Burns with a single and an RBI each. Deidre Ledbetter pitched the three-hitter wiith nine strikeouts.

At Windsor
Stewardson-Strasburg/Windsor bounced Dieterich 16-1 in five innings via the 10-run rule Tuesday evening.
The Comets took a 5-0 first inning lead then had a nine-run second. Schlechte pitched a three-hitter with one strikeout.
Knop had a single and a triple for the winners while Quast had a single, double, triple and three RBI. Schultz contributed a single, double, triple and three RBI and Tabor a single, double and two RBI. The Comets are now 4-1 on the season.
Dieterich was led by Higgs, Cox and Brummer with a single each. The Movin' Maroons fall to 0-6.

St. Elmo/Brownstown brought home 20 runs in a 20-5 win over Centralia Christ Our Rock Lutheran Tuesday.
SEB had 12 hits in the contest and was aided by five Christ Our Rock Lutheran errors. Scholes pitched a six-hitter with eight strikeouts.
Fitch had three singles and three RBI for the winners while Austin and Scholes had two singles and an RBI each and Austin a double and three RBI.
St. Elmo/Brownstown improves to 5-4 on the season.
