Millikin Softball Team Winning Streak Is Now At Eight

DECATUR, Ill.—The Millikin softball team winning streak has reached eight in a row as Millikin swept two games from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville Sunday at the Big Blue Tournament at Borg Warner Field in Decatur. Millikin won all four of its tournament contests including 7-3 and 11-6 wins over Platteville.

In game one against Platteville, Meghan Matthews (Clinton, H.S.) had two hits for Millikin including a homerun.  Becca Thompson (Hanover Park, Schaumburg H.S.) had two doubles for the Big Blue and Rachel Kindred (Ottawa, H.S.) also collected two hits for Millikin along with two RBIs.  Raeshel Braden (Decatur, St. Teresa H.S.) had a homerun and two RBIs.  

Taylor Hull (Decatur, MacArthur H.S.) earned the win on the mound allowing two earned runs on six hits.

The hitting star of the game two for Millikin was Brie Cimino (Homewood, Homewood Flossmoor H.S.) who went 3-4 with two homeruns including a grand slam and six RBIs.  Braden was 2-4 with her second homer of the day. Hillary Shelton (Beecher City, H.S.) was 4-4 with three runs scored.  Rachael Bishop (Villa Grove, H.S.) had two hits for Millikin.

Hull earned the victory in relief throwing the final four innings allowing only one run on three hits.  

Millikin opened the tournament on Saturday with a 4-1 win over Carroll University. Millikin scored all four runs in the fourth inning highlighted by a Matthews two run double.  Kindred was 2-2 for the Big Blue and Abbie Tinnon (Bartonville, Limestone Community H.S.) had an RBI.  

Hull got the win on the mound for Millikin throwing seven innings and allowing only one earned run on three hits and striking out 12.

Millikin won its second game on Saturday 2-0 over the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point with Hull again earning the win throwing seven shutout innings.  She allowed three hits and recorded 11 strikeouts. Alyssa Visvardis (Homer Glen, Lockport Township H.S.) led the Millikin hitters in the second game going 3-4.

Millikin is now 12-7 and will open CCIW play on April 5 at North Central and host Monmouth on April 6.
